New Zealand beat Australia in Top End series
DARWIN (Australia): Test opener Jamie How scored 123 not out as New Zealand A beat Australia A by eight wickets on Wednesday in the first limited overs match of the Top End cricket series.
Contributions of 64 by How’s Test opening partner Michael Papps and 27 not out from Peter Fulton carried New Zealand past Australia A’s total with 9.3 overs in hand. Brad Hodge made 123 and James Hopes 61 out as Australia A recovered from 51 for 5 to reach 236 for 7 in their 50 overs. Hopes and Hodge put on 175 for Australia’s sixth wicket. A 196-run opening partnership between How and Papps set New Zealand on target for victory and they surpassed the Australian’s total with only two wickets down and 40.3 overs bowled. The Top End series features second-string A teams from Australia, New Zealand, India and Pakistan.
Brief Scores:
Australia A 236-7 (Brad Hodge 123, James Hopes 61 not out; Mark Gillespie 3-49, Graeme Aldridge 2-28), New Zealand A 239-2 (Jamie How 123 not out, Michael Papps 64, Peter Fulton 27 not out; Shane Watons 2-60). ap
All Pakistani bowlers were crap but our strong batting lineup just collapsed.
We really need to find some bowlers, there wasn’t a single bowler who had a decent day.
^ what can u expect from bowlers like Wasim Khan, Mohammad Khalil and Mohammad Irshad. I dont know much about Wasim Khan, but having watched both Khalil and Irshad...I can assure you right now they anything but impressive. Irshad is Sami junior and Khalil is...well lets just say Pakistan's RP Singh :D
One thing I noticed right away are the names of Piyush Chawla & R Sharma. If I’m not mistaken, these two featured in the recently held U19 World Cup, won by Pakistan. If India can give em a chance, why can’t our thick minded selectors consider our pacers from the U19 squad… no one knows that answer
According to lord Bari, this was his statement before the final touring party was announced:
“We want to send some youngsters to Australia to give them some vital exposure.” (CricInfo)
Furthermore, healthy prospects such as Abdur Rahman and Tahir Khan were also available to fill in these positions - none were considered. The only person that could possibly gather all his grey matter into one little bowl and come up with a rational explanation for this question is lord Bari himself, and I would rather push myself from the edge off the cliff before even attempting to come to the rescue.
What nonsense?? we should never ignore senior citizens like Misbah ul Hick, they have contributed so much to our domestic cricket and we are responsible for making their retirement life easy:grumpy:
BTW you are right truelies, Piyush and Sharma aren’t the only ones from U19 squad, Dhawan played in the U19 WC as well and there is Jadeja from the same squad who didn’t take part in this match so they have 4 players from 2006 U19 squad.
