This is more drama than I bargained for, and its not even personal. So I started my position at an awkward time: basically one organization being taken over by another. When I was hired, I initially interviewed with who is my present supervisor (on the losing side of the acquisition), however I was interviewed by the larger org taking us over. The takeover occured one month after I started.
I have tried to maintain my composure during the power stuggles between the two groups, as I really did not want to get involved. However recently it came to my attention that my supervisor is angry at the fact that I am doing work for the larger group. I find this to be very problematic.
I am dumbfounded by this situation. I do not have a role in this power struggle of sorts, therefore at times it seems like I had two supervisors. According to the sources, I was expected to go through my present supervisor in order to do anything. Whereas, I see myself being part of the large ‘Finance Team’ therefore I work with and for everyone. Interestingly, my current boss is not a accounting/finance person at all, he has an administrative background. Therefore, it is easier for me to identify with the larger financial group of the merged organization.
My poor assistant is being jerked around in a similar manner. He recently started the position and has had it with the political climate. My concern is that he too may face the wrath. My supervisor is one of the meanest people when he wants to be, but in general he used to be tough but fair.
What a dilemma!
Any advice from those out there in the workplace?
