Odor neutralizers

Help !!! I need some really strong odor neutralizers that will really kill the bad odors in our kitchen and bathroom.

I have pretty much used every totka under the sun. But I can still smell stuff.
Thing is our kitchen is open concept and I light candles, have exhaust on high, open the Windows but I still feel that the smell is there for that day.

And with bathroom we have diaper wearing kid in the home and soon there will be 2 inshAllah. We have a covered trashcan Plus we wrap each diaper in individual bags and knot before we throw it out but then again a little smell is there. Exhaust of the bathroom is not very strong so I need suggestions of what could work.

Re: Odor neutralizers

Try keeping the bin out of the house maybe?

In other things try keeping the vinegar bottle open in the bathroom or the kitchen for a bit after using the places ...
One more thing, try wiping clean the surfaces with strong cleaning sprays at least a few times through the day .. that really helps diminish the odours ...

In the washroom, start using highly perfumed soaps coz they do make a difference ..

Re: Odor neutralizers

true with highly perfumed bottle :k: or bodywashes .. this can do the trick
i have put candles in my washroom and a good odour neutralizer spray as well

Try a bowl of ammonia. It is very good for absorbing odors along with box of baking soda.

For diapers here is diaper genie which is sold in USA. Not sure where you are located but I am sure it should be available. That is best for diaper odors. Also make sure to sprinkle baking soda on base of the diaper genie. Make sure to empty this can frequently.

Re: Odor neutralizers

You have some disorder of nose ,see a doctor. Seriously if you have tried everything and you still smell bad odors then it is time to see a doctor.

Re: Odor neutralizers

I have a very strong sense of smell. But it is natural not something the doctor can help me with

Re: Odor neutralizers

Ever heard of ghost tooth , when you lose a tooth , you feel for days that it is still there. May be same thing with your sense of smell , although the smell is gone but you still feel like it is there. If so , then it is a disorder not a strong sense of smell. :@:

Diaper odor is very strong and unpleasant! Diaper genie is a life saver and must for households that have diaper wearing kids. If you can't get one then try disposing of the diapers as soon as possible.

Try candles or plugin candles these are readily available in USA. They really help with odors. Vinegar and baking soda also absorb orders very nicely.

Re: Odor neutralizers

If its only you who can smell the odor , it might be due to pregnancy.
I felt that my sense of smell heightened when I was pregnant with my daughter. I would wash the dishes again. It was impossible for me to stand next to the dishwasher without feeling there was a strong smell coming from it. Same for the bathroom.

Re: Odor neutralizers

Yeah it could be the pregnancy. I know there is a smell hubby can only smell it sometimes but I feel it very strongly.

Which candles or plugins would you recommend?

If you are in USA or north America bath and body works products work very well. Glade brand products are very effective. Ammonia is used for absorbing urine orders. The smell of ammonia may be offensive to you.

Re: Odor neutralizers

I take the diaper trash bags out every morning, no matter what, then I open up windows in all bathrooms (winter or summer) for 5-10 mins
line all garbage bins with glade scented bags (I especially use those for the Kitchen bin)
I do weekly cleaning around the toilet bowls/sinks with Lysol wipes or anything antibacterial, also wash the bathroom mats once a week (I do the scrubbing part at night usually when the kids are sleeping, due to the inhaling factor) I also give the kitchen/bathroom sinks/toilet bowls a baking soda rinse with hot boiling water

It seems like a lot of work, but my husband and I are neat freaks, we have gotten used to this routine, so we do as much as we can along with the outside help i.e molly maid

Re: Odor neutralizers

To be honest, nothing helped me. But now,I am back with my normal sense of smell and can hardly smell burning salan.

I did use to throw out the diapers trash bag outside every night.
I used candles and mopped the kitchen and bathroom floor with lysol. Ran empty dishwasher.

Re: Odor neutralizers

Your solution is to cook less spicy food, which is the cause of both issues ..

J/K :(

Re: Odor neutralizers

My bathroom doesn't have any windows. And we don't throw diapers in the trash they are put in diaper bags tied and then put.in a covered bin which is small so regular throwing out of trash takes place. I alreasy have glade solid air freshener but even that seems not enough to me. I want the bathroom only to be smelling of.the perfume we.are using in the bathroom.

TLK bhai , we don't make spicy food.

Re: Odor neutralizers

OK on a serious note, here are solutions.

  1. Kitchen. A window fan (assuming that you have window in your kitchen) placed on window sill facing outside (acting like an exhaust) when you are coking food. If you have another window in adjacent area, place another fan facing inside (so it blows fresh air in as the kitchen fan is blowing air out). Also, try cooking your food dusing daytime, as sunlight (direct or indirect) is the best deodorizer.

  2. Bathroom. Use Infrared heat lamp and keep it on during high usage time. That eliminates moisture, which is the biggest trapper of odor. Also Infrared lamp kills bacterias.

Re: Odor neutralizers

On a side note, milk of magnesia is great under-arm deodorant. Much better than the ton of commercial deodorant sticks sold in the store.
