ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

Pakistan after a short stay on number 3 spot is now on number 4 with NZ beating Windies and clinching the number 3 spot.
Pakistan’s stay on number 4 can be even shorter if they lose the Karachi ODI and in that case will be number 5:smack:
If Pakistan beat India in Karachi, Inshallah, Pakistan will however get the number 3 spot again, only for a while until NZ beats Windies again (They have a 5 match series).

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

Pak will have to white wash SL and atleast win against England ODI series to cement their No. 2 postion with 118 points. Let see, our guys are capable of doing that. Wihtout Akhtar and mostly likely Afridi, our batting needs to deliver in every game to white wash Lankans. We know we can handle them with our bowling. Shahid Nazir might get a chance to play there.

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

Well you know what they say, getting the top is easy, staying there is another problem all together. A whitewash over the Lankans in their home ground is a stretch, but it's only 3 ODI's so you never know. I wouldn't place any bets on the England series just yet.

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

is the lanka tour still on

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

I thought Pakistan was at #2 when the India series began? Did they slip to #3 already and now are at #4?

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan’s standing

Yes according to cricinfo:smack2:

Is

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

^ Look at this:

1st feb 2006: M Pts rating
India 38 4219 111
Pakistan 34 3660 108

18th Feb 2006
Pakistan 38 4291 113

India 44 4912 112

How did India's number of matches (ODI) go up by 6 while Pak's went up only by 4? And India beat Pakistan in the last 3...So how did Pak improve the rank and India regressed in rank? What am I missing here?

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan’s standing

^ ranking is done over a one year window, may be Pakistan played less games from 1st Feb to 18 Feb last year :konfused:

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

^ last year? it says 200*6* on both dates

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

^ again, the ranking is a one year window. For 1st Feb ranking, they took matches from 1st Feb 2005 to 1st Feb 2006, similarly rankings for Feb 18 are from Feb 18 2005 to Feb 18 2006.

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

yes it is confusing

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

Ok. In that case it means India had better a record between Feb 1 to Feb 18 2005 than between feb 1 to feb 18 2006. That's hardly possible considering India won 3 of 4 ODIs in that period in 2006.

AND in addition, Pakistan has to have had a worse record in those 18 days of 2005 than 2006. And that's hardly possible either considering they lost 3 of 4 in 2006 in that period.

Re: ODI Rankings and Pakistan's standing

^ Pakistan was playing VB series in Australia in that duration last year.
