OCD in Pakistan....

I guess you guys n gals know about obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)…its a psyc disorder which affects millions worldwide and Pakistan is no exception…being a case of OCD myself it was quite an ordeal getting info in Pakistan on this as they aint a lot of shrinks around (well not qualified in OCD anyways..)…anyways to cut a long story short..i have started a group called OCD in Pakistan…i know there loads of people who suffer from this disorder but suffer in silence as either they do not have full knowledge of this disorder or become victims of the strange taboo that our society has on mental disorders…it affects their families, their loved ones, people they care about and the worst thing is that they feel helpless as the obsessions / compulsions are so strong they seem out of control…

If there are people out there who suffer from OCD but have not spoken up…please join OCD in Pakistan…it is a small effort to help people like myself in Pakistan who are going through this ordeal…the group is at

Hope this helps all silent screamers like me…

Cheers

Interesting. This is a great effort. I filled out the form to join and I hope it gets approved. What resources are there in Pakistan for OCD sufferers?

I was just thinking more about this... Why is seeking help for treatment of a mental disorder such a taboo? I guess people are scared, why?

methinks it's the old, archaic idea of that when someone was sick, either mentally or physically, it was a punishment from God for their sins. At least that's the western pov to me

i guess cause there is not enuff infor abt this.....no published literature in Pakistan i know of...had to rely on the net to get whatever info i could get..........its depressing i tell you...you feel so scared of telling anyone ur suffering from OCD..cause they automatically assume that a psychological disorder is synon with mental disorder...from what i have learned OCD is also caused by a particualr chemical reaction in the brain...anyways...thanks for all ur support....i just wish people would understand that people suffering from OCD are not Mad...:)
