I admit that women tend to talk more about fashion compared to men. Actually I don’t recall any guy ever talking about fashion apart from one. Some guys are equally if not more obsessed but why do women discuss more?
Re: Obsession with fashion
Maybe coz we like to look colourfull, and fashionable....and our clothes reflects our mood (mine anyway)
Re: Obsession with fashion
I can think of a few reasons why fashion is more important for women:
1) Women have more choices in terms of fashion, and although that's a good thing, we're also expected to look good and dress appropriately for different occassions which means a lot of planning/styling is involved. For example, going to weddings - a guy can get away with wearing the same suit (I'm talking jacket & trousers-type suit here) with a different coloured shirt and tie. No-one's going to say to him, "oh you wore that same suit last month at another wedding" but for women planning what to wear at a wedding involves a lot more planning - do you have matching jewellery? a handbag that will go with your outfit? What shoes do you wear etc. It's the same with work clothes too, a guy can create a full work wardrobe with a lot less items than a woman can!
2) Womens' fashion is big business, so of course there's millions of fashion magazines telling us to buy new stuff every season!
3) Final view is that womens' body shapes vary a lot more than mens' do. So in a woman's lifetime her body will change from her teens, to after marriage, through pregnancy, after pregnancy, and as they get older (how many of your dad's still wear clothes they've had for years?!! and have you ever heard a man being called "mutton dressed as lamb"?! probably not!). Women have to change their fashion styles to suit their lifestyles.
