Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
Is it any secret, wonder or surprise that the US would obliterate any country that launches a nuke attack on her or any of her allies? It that's not common knowledge, it needs to be.

In that scenario, Given that Pakistan is a major non NATO ally, would the US obliterate Israel or India, if they were to launch a nuclear strike on us?
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
With Pakistan being a nuclear power, I imagine any retaliation would come from Pakistan.

The word "allies" should be properly translated as just Israel. The rest of the so-called "allies" can go screw themselves (a.k.a. take care of themselves). If one thinks that US will obliterate any country of the world for launching an attack on Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Denmark or Canada are living in a fool's paradise.
By the way, I even doubt US has even the appetite to obliterate any country in the world. US is just like a school bully.... talk big but a wimp at heart. It has zero tolerance for making any human sacrifices, which is the first thing you need to demonstrate courage and power. Firing missiles on tents in Sudan and launching cruise missiles on Afghanistan's barren territories is one thing - obliterating a whole country is just rhetorical statement and has no place in the practical world or reality. If US or any country in the world think that they can launch a nuclear obliteration strike on another country and have no retaliation on their own soil - again, fool's paradise.

Same is the case for Israel and many other allies, so once again, if an attack were to come from Israel or India on Pakistan which is designated as a major non-NATO ally, would the US obliterate the aggressor in the same manner?
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
Faisal, by "obliterating" I don't think anyone means turning the whole country into glass. The killing of 70 million people would be a little overkill, even by neocon standards. But I don't think there is any doubt that the US will retaliate with nukes if US or (as you correctly pointed out) certain allies are attacked. I would definitely include Canada as one of those allies, maybe Denmark.

There are all levels and nuances of friends and allies. Designations aside, I think everyone knows the (official) relationship between Pakistan and US is tenuous and not the same as the relationship as Israel/US. And India is also designated as a major non-NATO ally. So no, it would not happen in the same manner. Are you trying to force the issue that US foreign policy is uneven and hypocrital? It is. So is the foreign policy of any other country.

Did I say anything about hypocrisy etc? You said

So where did nuances and this and that come in? You made the comment and I called you on it. So the statement as you stated it does not stand?
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
I should not have said "any", that was too broad of a statement. So when Faisal correctly pointed out they probably wouldn't do that for just any ally, I tempered my statement by saying they would do that if *certain *allies were attacked.
That's when I said that Pakistan/US relationship isn't same as Israel/US. Just like you have acquaintances, friends, loved ones intinmate relationships and family. Not all relationships are equal.

Sorry didn't see you response to Faisal's comment earlier

True. On a side note, many one-liners come to mind after reading this but this is a serious discussion....
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
Seriously though, when you're already struggling to contain a much weaker and broken country, talking about obliteration of its neighbour is just laughable, esp. when that country has more power over iraq than you, and can without much effort uproot it into chaos merely on the word 'Go'.
This is as usual the 'Big talk.' But I guess; its just more reasons for iran to carry on with its nuke activities.
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
Well heres to hoping someone obliterates the woman herself before that. Will def. wipe some of that smugness right off her smarmy face.

I don't know if they can go on with it. We were helping them and they sold us down the river when the pressure got too much back in 03 together with Libya which resulted in the AQ Khan fiasco.
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
How unfortunate is this trend. Senior leaders and people in positions of power have started using language of low class street thugs.
Dubya with his axis of evil
Ahmedinejad with his eliminate Israel threat
Obama with his threat to unilateral action in Pakistan
Halary with her 'obliterate'
Just plain dumb
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
American Elections are a big joke anyway, its one big fat jerry springer show. JERRRRYYYY
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
Such remarks about Iran are going to help her win millions of ignorant and arrogant Americans :)
Re: Obliterate Iran! remark made by Clinton
So the aspiring leader of the Democratic Party supports killing 70 million people for the actons of their leaders?
By comparison, George Bush looks positively peace-loving.
What are you people talking about?
She was asked what she would do if Iran launched a nuclear attack on Israel. Do you honestly believe any US leader (even Obama) would react any differently if Israel was attacked? She simply said what any American leader knows they would do. In any case, the likelihood of Iran actually developing a nuclear bomb, and then completely loosing its mind and deciding to attack Israel, is virtually nil...so its pretty much a non-issue.
That said, her phrasing reeks of chest-thumping to impress voters...which I'm sure it has.

I second that.
