Objective vs. Issue
Too often I see us bickering over problems from different prespectives. It’s always occured to me that instead of bickering over the issue, we should instead be dealing with the objectives that we wish to achieve related to that issue.
Here’s an example:
Recently on this forum we were talking about Pakistani bias in text-books. There was evidence being presented from both sides which was relatively good, though better from one side than the other. In any case, instead of discussing the merits of the issues and what our objectives are in trying to deal with the issue. It instead broke down into a debate about people and history. So here’s my suggestion of dealing with it:
First you state the problem: Pakistani books contain a lot of propaganda against hindus.
Then you state the evidence to back up your case, i.e. examples of incidences.
Then you state the objective, i.e. this is done currently for this reason, and if it wasn’t done then this would be the result.
In this way you can make your arguments much more constructive. People reading the debate can draw their own conclusions on the issues as to which position holds more merit.
The method of propaganda discourse that Pakistanis have been taught by our elites is not fit for the modern world, and people should be taught how to defend against it.
