When I was younger - in my late teens and early twenties - the duas that I found myself making most sincerely centered around my needs. My health, my faith, my wealth, etc.
Now that I am double that age, and have a family, I find that my most sincere duas involve not me, but my children. Their faith, their wellbeing, their future, etc.
This made me reflect on the amazing love of parents. No one loves you more than your parents. In fact, they are more concerned about you than they are about themselves. And the only time you will truly appreciate this fact of life is when you yourself become a parent.
But even if you won’t fully appreciate it until you’re a parent, try your best to at least understand it, and then act according to it.
Take advantage of your parents and do whatever you can to earn their blessings. And if they are gone from this world, continue to repay them back with duas and good deeds.
‘O my lord! Have mercy on them, even as they took care of me when I was young!’
