Australia need to win this to say alive in the Chappell Hadlee series. NZ will try to wrap up the series at Melbourne by beating the demoralized world champs.
NZ won the toss and elected to field and right from the start put Australia under pressure. Australia are 63-3 in 18 overs.
Paul Reifel is also making his umpiring debut in this game.
and after losing the test series to india... then that record breaking test loss to south africa, followed by the odi series lost to south africa, aussies r 2 down against the kiwis to continue their downfall....
Aussies demise is understandable. They have lost no less that 4 great (Gilchrist, McGrath, Warne & Hayden) and 3 good (Martyn, Langer & Gillespie) players over the past 18 months or so; plus they' re missing Symonds (disciplined by ACB for his foul remarks against Vettori) and Ponting (rested for the first two ODIs against NZ)
Anyways there is atleast some healthy competition now b/w them, SA and India.
