NYC - places to go

Re: NYC - places to go

Metropolitan Museum of Art...

That itself will take you atleast a day.. even if you just run past most of the exhibits. It is truly one of the great museums of the world.

Re: NYC - places to go

Actually Long Island, you can visit either the Hamptons or better yet, take a boat/ferry out to Fire Island, pretty neat. There's Jones Beach...but too over crowded. Hmm in NY everything mentioned is awesome, but depends on your interests, are you coming with friends or family?
I highly recommend the Bronx Zoo, i was just 2 weeks ago, and its amazing. NY Aquarium is awesome as well. If you are into boat rides, look into NY Waterway cruises for 2-3 hours, some include lunch/dinner buffet and u get to see all the bridges/sights from the water. If ur with friends, they have Friday night Salsa cruises and other types of music as well. Hmm........
Depending on how much time you have, you can go to great adventure.....dorney park etc....

Re: NYC - places to go

Well I work in Berkeley Heights, are you coming on a Business trip?
It is gonna be a longg drive to NYC from berkeley Heights/New Providence....its about 25-30 miles, and if you take into account traffic just from berkeley Heights to the tunnel...and more time thru the tunnel. Unless your in Berkeley heights for a specific reason, Actually your better off in Elizabeth, as its easier to get to NYC from there. The drive is shorter, and if worse comes to worst, you can hop on a bus/train too.

Re: NYC - places to go

Yes I will be on business trip and staying in New Providence for the weekdays and then three days in Elizbeth for the long weekend.

So I have decided to take two day tour that goes through the whole city’s attractions on a double decker buss and that also includes Ferry to Liberty Island.

Now the big question is how get to 777 8th Ave, New York at the start point for this tour from Elizbeth. Driving or ride a bus/subway line? How much is the parking in that area? I heard it could be upto $35.

Re: NYC - places to go

The parking in NYC can definitely run you $35 or even more. I recommend you take the train/subway there. I will find out which bus/train takes you into the city. Another option would be to drive your car into Jersey City, park it there & then hop the train/subway to your destination. On your return it’ll be nice to just get into your car and then drive the 10-15 minute drive back to Elizabeth.

Re: NYC - places to go

You can probably ask the Front Desk at the hotel you stay in, about buses/trains but I think you can take the 40 bus from Elizabeth to Newark Penn station. From there you can easily board trains headed into the city.
First you would take the PATH train to 33rd Street. Then from 33rd Street you would board the subway for a train to 8th Avenue. There are little booths at the station and you can ask which train to take uptown. Here is a bus schedule.

Re: NYC - places to go

New Provience, Berkekley Heights are mainly business areas, so are really dead. Remind me of Boston's suburbs. Same hilly areas. Damn, the whole North East is alike :D

Do you know any good Desi restaraunts in surrounding 15 mile radius.

Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it.

Re: NYC - places to go

Well yeah they are just a bunch of office parks and overpriced real estate.
Hmm not very many desi restaurants...but these are good:
u have to try Silk Road restaurant(afghani)
41 Mountain Blvd @ Village Sq Mall in Warren Township...across from Warren Library. The place is small but the food is good.

Hmm Thai Thai is a reallllly good Thai restaurant, you can always have veggie/seafood selections.
Thai Thai is located in Stirling, NJ on 1168 Valley Road, Stirling NJ 07980
Both are about 10 minute drive from Berkeley Heights at least.
And you have your selection of chain restaurants, applebees, olive garden.
There is also Neelam Exotic Cuisine on Spring field Avenue, nice for lunch buffet.
Neelam exotic Cuisine
295 Springfield Ave
Berkeley Heights, NJ 07922

Usually the happy hours are fun in TGIF or Colororado Cafe if your going with friends....Colorado Cafe has a mechanical bull...also weird country dancing...hehe

In elizabeth u can kill time at the Jersey Gardens Mall...hehe totally cheezy though

Re: NYC - places to go

There are two places in NYC where you can get half-price tickets to broadway shows called TKTS. One is in Duffy Square, right in Times Square by the big TV screen. The other is downtown somewhere, you'd have to google it or ask around for its location. They sell the leftover seats for that day's performance.
