i will be moving to NJ/NY in a day or two..how safe is bronx? and brooklyn? what about car jacking in these areas?
also, if anyone knows who is renting out a room let me know. it has to be within 30 miles of montvale, nj

All I know is that my husband did a rotation at a Brooklyn Hospital in the Trauma/ER Unit and every night they had gang related, gun shot victims. Sometimes they were young black kids who already had previous scars or bullets in them already. So not to generalize, but be careful which areas of Brooklyn or Bronx you go to.
Williamsburg in Brooklyn used to be the trendy area to go to for people trying to escape the high Manhattan rents. There's a lot of galleries and small coffee shops, clothing boutiques popping up there.
But the nice area in Brooklyn is Carrol Gardens. Also in summer you have to see Coney Island and the Aquarium. In Bronx,there's the zoo. I don't know about car jacking in those areas. You take your chances I guess, unless you have underground parking. As for housing look up www.craigslist.org and in NYC you can see listings for various areas whether shared housing or whatever.
Don’t move to Coney Island, lots of Pakis there, they tend to be either illegal or are involved in credit card fraud.

I live in queens but would much rather live in the city, specifically around the village.

Riverdale in the Bx.
Bklyn Heights, some parts of Williamsburg, Mill Basin in Brooklyn.
The two boros are overall sketchy though.

Glad you are safe and sound in NJ.. but what was your interest in Bronx or Brooklyn? Go during the day as a tourist, but don't think about staying there.
