Wrong. It is not a Pashtun province. it was never made for the sole benefits of Pashtuns. It is a province of the PEOPLE OF PAKISTAN. The majority maybe Pashtu speakers but do you really thinkits fair that they deny the rights of other ethnicities just to get their way?
It is a Pashtun province. They should call the province whatever they want to.
That is totally greedy and very selfish. There are NO Pakhtun majority areas in Attock or Mainwali so it would be wrong for them to join. There is no real support or even interest in those areas for wanting to join a Pakhtun province. They have no consideration for the non-Pakhtun districts of Chitral, eastern D I KHan, and most of Hazara division yet they want to add other territories into their future province?
Not necessarily true. There is no gaurantee that Pakhtunkhwa would win. Not many Pakhtuns would vote for NWFP for sure - I know some who will as the name NWFP has such a historical image to it.
A lot of Pakhtu speakers would not only be split between Pakhtunkhwa or Paklhtunistan but a considerable number WILL vote for other names ie Afghan, Khyber, Abaseen. If a name did nt get get 50% of the votes which would be very likely then what would be the next step?
It would be the non-Pakhtuns who should be worried about the fairness of the referendum , not the Pakhtuns.
Why dont Hazara, Chitral, eastern DI Khan also have referendums if they want to stay with a Pakhtunkhwa province?
Thankfully not all Pakhtuns believe that they are denied historic rights because of the current name being non-ethnic.
Precisely. I would be hard pressed to find a Pakhtu speaker who supports the status quo, NWFP. If a fair referendum is conducted, Pakhtunkhwa wins hands down.
All the minority, redrawing provincial boundaries, and other arguments are weak and baseless in stopping this positive change in renaming NWFP.
we want change, people of pakhtoonkhwa ,in recent election clearly showed their willingness for change. They replaced MMA with ANP and PPP by ballot power. AS both ANP & PPP win from pashto speaking area they will favour change of name, similarly PPPs and JUI will follow it,other wise in next election they will face the pashtoon electorate and we will not forgive them. Out of 24 districts 18 are pashtuns and even in 2 other districts you will find pashtun population from 25% to 35%. IN democracy majority voice is heared and respected. AS for as some people are talking about strong centres , its against federal system which was forwarded by fouder of PAkistan Quaid-i-Azam. I dont know during ATTA shortage punjab stops its movement, same is the right of other provinces what they want to do in their land, they can do.
Majority of people showed their faith and trust on ANP and we will sport their policies. THejoke mentioned that pashtun people are conservative, yes we know what we are but we willsupport ANP. This is right time to through the ill legal black mailing from Hazara.
hey all hazara is not hindko speaking, upper mansehra, battagram ,sirikot and amazai are pashtun areas. EVen jadoon, tarin, swatis, tanolis and dalazaks are pashtoons. chitral have no objection with pashtoonkhwa, in daroosh chitral pashtoo is spoken. you are also talking about seriki people , who lived in Dera ismail khan side by side with pashtun will accept it because seriki people are living in all 4 provinces of Pakistan and in 3 provinces where they have more population never object the name and they will follow same suit in case of pakhtunkhwa. we favour refrendum in Hazara and many people will show about their pashtun origion by ballet. i Am from hazara but i am not hindko speaker.

You're not even coherent at this point. How about you leave the referendum business to India in dealing with Kashmir - Since Pakhtunkhwa is a part of Pakistan and voted for politicians and a political party that has made the name change an integral part of its agenda, what type of name for NWFP will or will not consider is pure conjecture.
Let the non-Pakhtun minorities voice their opinions. Forget historical rights and ethnic identity, NWFP is a ridiculous name and has to go.
You can continue to come back with the same old (and tired) arguments, but it is clear that ANP has both the democratic majority and the backing of the people to get this done. Even non-Pakhtunkhwa Pakistanis agree that this is a provinicial issue, so that minority argument does not mean anything.

Thank you! The bottom line is that this provincial issue should even be debated as it is both democratically and politically necessary.
When the chips were down, Pakhtuns were called to stand by Pakistan - and we did. This is the right time to correct an historical wrong.

This really is ethnic chauvinism.
THe joke niazi of Mianwali will never call them hazarwal and they always proved their pashtun lineage. In attock you will find a lot of pakhtun except hassan abdal area. it is greedy and selfish in your eyes to join them with nwfp bc minority pashtun population. then you as a hindki with 16% of nwfp population is the most selfish and greedy to stop us for renaming majority pashtoon province.
now you will never stop, pashtoon are uniting and you can not play with them.
what do you know about attock? not even the area of chach which has the highest concentration of pashtuns has over 50% pashtuns.
you should read the facts about attock.
the number of awans outnumbers pathans (hindko and pashtu speakingcombined) and then what would happen if you added the numbers of other non-pashtun tribes up?

Non-Pakhtun Pakistanis think the whole area is Pakhtun. Most of them do not have a clue about it. No one is saying that NWFP should stick but why does the name have to be ethnic? Cant some other neutral name be considered? Why are the ANP firing up ethnic hatred? Nothing will change for the people if the name changes. The ANP have raised this issue in such a way that anyone who opposes it seen to be considered anti-Pashtun.
If the name is voted in then let the ANP be the true democrats that they are and give those non-Pashtun areas the choice to be a part or join with another. Surely that is fair enough?
Its surprising how the ANP can talk about minority rights. they literally live off being an anti-status quo party with nothing better to do than attack the Pakistani establishment but yet when it comes to their home province they quickly forget about the rights of minorities. Hypocrisy at its very best.

The eastern portion of DI Khan and Probably half if not more of D I Khan city is Seraiki speaking.
Indus Kohistan is a non-pashtun area but the a significant amount of the people can speak Pashtu as a learned language.
Chhitral is a non-pashtu speaking area but there are many Pashtuns settling from Dir trading there.
Batagram is probably the only area which may have a Pashtu speaking majority.
Abbottabad - very few villages speak Pashtu here now. Most people who speak Pashtu in Abbottabad are oputsiders.
Mansera - will probably have a Hindko majority but there is a goo dnumber of Pashtuns there.
Haripur - a definite Hindko majority and I doubt if 20% here speak Pashtu. Sirikot is one of thew few pashtu speaking villages here.
Whether the 5 areas of Hazara ever had a Pashtun or Pathan majority It is hard to say but today very few of the Pathans in the Hazara division barring Batagram speak Pashtu. In future this small number will decrease.
The Niazis of Mianwali are Pashtun by origin not by language. The vast majority speak Seraiki/Punjabi. Most of these non-Pashtu speaking Pathans are no longer considered to be a part of them.
The only reason why Pashtuns claim these areas is because they were part of the Afghan empire and they want to claim as much land as possible.
People assume that when the ANP won people voted for Pashtunkhwa. Wrong. People voted for those Mullahs to be out.

I actually dont support a referendum over such a trivial issue. Referendums cost time and money. I think the money would be better spent on doing something positive for the people ie schools, education, health - things that really matter.
I would rather the name be changed just like that - people might not like it but at least it saves time and money. Theres a lot of poverty there and its about time the political parties did something about that rather than non-issues.
Chances are resentment would increase against the ANP who are probably not going to bother with development in the non-Pashtun belt. Even Zardari knows that most o fhis vote bank in NWFP lies with Pashtuns so he may support it for now. Nawaz sharif on the other hand has mixed support so may not want to aleinate the non-pashtuns.
If the name is changed then maybe the ANP should do something concrete for non-Pashtun areas ie supporting the development of their cultural heritage which can be anything from teaching their local languages in schools, more media representation etc....It would be a way of compromising and if they cant compromise over the name then surely they have to do something for the minorities cultural heritage.
