NWFP govt mulls making Pushto compulsory

*PESHAWAR: The provincial government formed a committee on Friday to make recommendations about the introduction of Pushto language as a compulsory subject in primary schools of the province. According to a statement, the aim of the programme is to help students understand their mother tongue in a better way at an early age. The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting held to implement the chief minister’s directives to introduce **Pushto as a compulsory subject from class 1 to 4. ***

Schools and Literacy Secretary Shafiullah Khan chaired the meeting, while Prof Dr Azam Azam, Resident Director Academy of Letters; Dr Salma Shaheen, Director Pushto Academy; Hameed Khan, Director Schools; and Abad Badshah also attended the meeting.
