its an absolute right that people who speak an other language than urdu are taught it. its a disgace that people can read and write english and german better than their own languages.
although pashtu should not be made compulsory in non-pashtu speaking areas or schools. other regional languages such as khowar, hindko, seraiki, gujjari should also be given a chance.
In India every state has it's regional language compulsory. In Maharashtra for example Marathi is a compulsory language for all residents living in Maharashtra. Tamil is compulsory in Tamil Nadu, Kannada in Karnataka.
Regional feelings are very strong in India. Indians will never like Hindi forced on them. Similar situation must be in Pakistan too.
Pakistan is a much smaller countyr then India, the proximity of the provnces can ensure that a common language will always exist..
On the other hand, this can also be seen as a threat to inigenous groups, so making their own languages cumpolsory is a good move, at least for the sake of harmony.
Yeah thats one way of making sure language cannot go extinct. I don't see why not, when I was in Karachi in early eighties I used to study sindhi. Extra language is always beneficial. Don't see any harm in it.
