Please can the UK guppies help me out…I am currently trying to finalise a wedding venue…been looking at Nawaab in Manchester, Manzil in Manchester and Rio Grande in Bradford.
Nawaab is tried and tested and is totally fine…but availability is proving a problem.
Manzil is nice but I think a bit featureless…and Rio Grande I like but dont really know what the whole wedding experience will be like.
Has anyone attended a wedding at any of the above, or know someone who has , and what did they think? Or if there is another amazing venue that you would like to recommend feel free to make any suggestions!
Thanks in advance.
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I have been to tooo many weddings at Nawaab, i'm sure there are better places. There's Manzil, but i havn't been to a wedding there, my friend said its kinda small, so depends how many people you are inviting.
If you live Yorkshire way, Rio Grande looks fab in the pics but i have never visited. I'm going to be looking at venues very soon around the north west.
Where do you live Crimbo?
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I'm in Lancashire..hence why Manchester/Yorkshire don't make that much difference in terms of travel. I am having 450ish which is not massive I guess but its so difficult. I dont want to be paying more than £25 a head as I do think it is only one day! Let me know if you have any suggestions supergirl and good luck!
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Snap! Im in Lancs tooo
. Have you checked out Maida restaurant in blackburn? There’s the Sheridan Suite in manc aswell.
Where are you getting your wedding dress from?
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Yeah maida is already booked. And I think Sheridan Suite is too big but will give them a call tomorrow.I have already got my dress and wedding jewellry - my auntie lives in karachi so she helped with the dress ordering from Zardosi and then I did a one week trip to karachi for a fitting and bought my gold from omega jewellers, and got all my other clothes. How about you? Its so difficult to find something in England that has the pakisTani look but isn't mega expensive!
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Oh i know exactly what you mean...i hate those blingy indian bridals/formals, they look tacky n cheap! I'm really happy with the 2 shops in Manc i found, Je Roche and Burooj...they both hav gorgeoussss pakistani clothes and bridals.
Je Roche are opening a new shop on wimmy rd with 3 floors of lovely clothes, going to visit after Ramadhan and check out some bridals.
I really love the Sana Safinaz bridals, so i want a long shirt with full sleeves and want it to be flowy and drapey from the bottom.
I liked a semi formal outfit from Ranis in Bradford and it was like £400 and there was literally no embroidery or anything on it, insane! Same goes for Imani Studio...tooo over priced!
Whens your wedding crimbo?

Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Hi!
I have been planning my friends wedding yesterday. She is going to book Rio Grande for september 2012. They have a 7* package which we have chosen..
http://www.rio-grande.co.uk/photo-gallery/view_pictures.asp?p_id=13 Click on the 7* package.
It caters for 500 guest and its around £23 per head.
Theres live stall of aloo tikki and everything included in the package.
My cousin got married at rio grande and it went really well.
Good luck
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I’ve been to a wedding there and it’s a bit “featureless” but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it just means you can create your own theme for the room. Here’s the facebook link with pictures: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Grand-Venue-Oldham-OL9-6AZ/164738490234807
Al-Maidah is another one similar to Manzil and Grande Oldham. I haven’t been to an event there and don’t know about capacity but worth checking out as part of your research: http://www.almaidah.co.uk/aboutus.html
Sheridan Suite is huge and I’ve heard it’s very expensive.
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I do really like Rio Grande, am going to give them a call today and recheck availability. One of the concerns with Rio is although they have the Appetizers, are two starters and two mains enough variety these days? The main part of an asian wedding is still the food for most peole and I don't want them to go away hungry. What did you think of the service etc Nausheen when you attended as a guest?
What's Grand Venye Oldham like from the outside or entrance area?....I tried Google Image and Maps but came up with a boarded up row of houses!
Al Maidah we had a look at last night - it is nice and the owner was very friendly..but is quite small (max capacity is 400).
Argh who would've thought this would be soooo difficult!
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I just had a look at Grand Venue pics...i think it looks good and you can add your own decor/theme. Just don't like the outside :s
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I think its between a mid-week wedding at Nawaab or a weekend one at Rio Grande.
Although Nawaab does alot of weddings, my family are Pushto and we haven't had any Pathan weddngs there so would be a first for most of the guests.
Just need someone to give me a rave review about Rio Grande as literally have no idea apart from the Sales Pitch you get when you visit!
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Rio Grande: My friend did mention that her dad wants an extra starter and an extra main dish so will pay slightly extra.
I likes it when I attended for my cousins wedding, but would have made it alot easier if there was a car park attendant. With the 7* package my friend has chosen, you get a car park attendant and a security guard.
There are so many other nices touches included like two swan ice sculptures, live tikki stand which makes heart shaped tikkis, chair covers etc etc.
Have you been to have a look at rio grande? There is a reception area which is nice as it separates it from the hall.
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I think Dhanak Deira at Bolton have a wedding function hall....no idea on size or. Cost but there always seems to be a wedding when we go for a meal!!Have also attended a wedding at Al Waalis in Manchester..........
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
whats everyone's views on Usmania in Manchester?
food? capacity? parking?
Also Al-Maidah banquet hall?
what is their capacity like, al maidah say 400 on round tables but i think it may be a squeeze!
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
I've been to a few weddings at Rio Grande and it does have one major downfall....there are no windows in the main hall!! one wedding was in the middle of summer and towards the end of the reception it was hard to breath they had to open the fire exits to let air in. with no windows all you have to rely on is artificial light which makes it seem dark in a few places.
Re: NW England Wedding Venues
Usmania Hall in Manc
Mere Golf Club (really nice!)
Nawaab - always good and central
Eastern Pearl (longsight - i guess okay for dholiks etc.)
Saffron (cheetham hill)
Manzil - have not tried yet.
