Re: nursery decor

we have after months of debating over diff themes finally settled on a contemporary nursery theme for our baby... there is way too much choice out there.. and u just want to do everything.

it depends on what your child likes.. do u want some disney character? a certain theme (jungle, farmyard animals, underwater theme etc)... or someting more sophisticated...

you can take visit a childrens furniture store and see waht they have.. usually they have diff themed rooms already layed out with beds, closets, and decorated walls and accessories so u can get a feel of what the room will look like... ikea has some..

one aspect i really look fwd to having in the child's room once its older, is a wall where it can paint and scribble and draw on.. like a huge huge blackboard... you get a certain kind of paint that you paint the walls with, and the child uses washable crayons and paints and pencils.. all u do aftewards is, clean off with a cold wet cloth.... kids LOVE drawing on walls.. so i love the idea

Hey thats a great idea! As long as the children understand that this is the ONLY wall they are allowed to draw on, all other walls and especially those in other people's homes are strictly offlimites :CareBear:

Very nice njgal!

Wow - thanks for uploading those njgal! :)

Wall murals are a great idea. The can cover an entire wall or just a small spot somewhere. For my nephew’s room I painted a “old McDoldnald had a farm” nursery rhyme theme, above his small floor shelf. I used wall-letter-stencils for the lettering. On another wall, I painted stars, planet and a rocket. I bought glow-in-the-dark stars from Hamleys toy shop and stuck those around too. Then I bought him a really cool toy rack which helped keep his room tidy. Bought loads of stuff from www.ikea.com as they have some amazing stuff. I painted his walls baby blue and baby green colours to create a light, warm effect.

For my daughter, I choose a butterfly theme bedroom. I painted three huge, gorgeous butterflies above her bed. I stuck large crystal-beads on the butterflies as eyes, which I bought from Pakistan for around Rs 20/- each from a bead shop. I collected different butterfly items e.g. butterfly rug, butterfly curtains, butterfly bed covers. It wasn’t over the top with butterflies at all - but it looked incredible. I used various butterfly wall stencils in her bathroom and used orange, pink, lilac and red colours to create a soft look. I painted her room using baby pink and baby orange soft colours which created such a cosy and soft bedroom.

Soft, playful themes and colour schemes are important to me when decorating children’s room. But safely is important first so always keep that in mind before deciding on anything.

Use wall stencils to decorate the walls or wall paper borders. There are so many websites where you can buy these from and get help with theme ideas e.g. space theme, jungle theme, car theme, disney theme etc. Look on www.idea.com too as they have great things.
