Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

Ok so this dude says Israelis killed Zia-ul-Haq. Wow. Then he says Israelis tried to kill him as well in Lebanon. I guess he sees Mossad in his dreams. Had Israelis really wanted to attack Pakistani nukes, they would have tried directly. It is like someone doesn’t like his neighbor’s car, so he kills the neighbor. But the car is still there.

Zia’s murder was an inside job. He was probably trying to move away from his pro-Islamic policies so the likes of Aslam Beg got him “flown out of this world”. Aslam Beg was the biggest opponent of the use of Pakistani Army in the Middle East. Zia had defended Jordan from Palestinian militants in the 70’s. So he would be more inclined to supply Pak troops to Middle East again in the 90’s

p.s. How come Israelis could attack Zia who couldn’t be killed by RAW and KGB, but the same Mossad failed to kill this puny ambassador? Clearly this 80 years old is a mental case.

Israelis killed Zia, suspects ex-US ambassador

LAHORE: The Israeli secret agency Mossad most probably killed Gen Ziaul Haq, suspects John Gunther Dean, who was the American ambassador to India in 1988, according to an article in the latest issue of World Policy Journal by Barbara Crossette, who was the South Asia Bureau Chief of the New York Times from 1988 to 1991.

When Mr Dean expressed his views to the State Department at the time and insisted on a thorough investigation of the Israeli-Indian axis, he was accused of mental imbalance and relieved of his duties.

Dean was a distinguished diplomat who has garnered more ambassadorships than most envoys. He had strong opinions and years of valuable experience. As an independent thinker, he often had problems being a good “diplomat”.

Dean believes that the Israelis wanted to stop Pakistan’s military from making nuclear weapons. They had attacked Iraq’s nuclear facilities at Osirak in 1981 and believed Gen Zia when he declared in 1987 that Pakistan was a “screwdriver’s turn away from the bomb”.

Dean, now 80, has remained silent for nearly 20 years but is now collecting his papers and is ready to share his thoughts. He was declared mentally unfit for demanding an investigation into the crash. He lost his medical clearance and security clearance because of his views and was forced to seek retirement in 1988. After he made the charge following the air crash in which the then US ambassador to Pakistan, Arnie Raphel was also killed, he was sent to Switzerland to “rest” for six weeks and only then allowed to return to New Delhi to pack his bags and quit. He is now opening the case because he wants to clear the charge of “mental imbalance” and ask the questions that have long remained buried about the aircrash that killed Gen Zia.

Dean says that when he was ambassador to India, various pro-Israel Congressmen and other US policy makers constantly asked him why he wasn’t cooperating with the Israelis to thwart Pakistan’s nuclear programme and demonise Pakistan. He says he was asked to persuade the Indians to be more pro-Israel too. He is on record as having alleged that the Israelis tried to kill him in 1980 when he was US ambassador to the Lebanon because he disagreed with Israeli policies. He was accused of being “pro-Palestinian” in the Israeli Knesset (parliament).

The US did not allow the FBI or any other agency to carry out a full-fledged investigation into the crash.

Re: Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

The guy is totally out to lunch. Everybody knows Zia was killed by Bajrang Dal.

Re: Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

USA was quick on UNs ass to launch an inquiry into hariri's assassination only bcoz they want a reason to put pressure on syria and a possible attack in the near future. back then USA did nothing. maybe because afghanistan war was at its end, russians had their butts kicked out of afghanistan and zia was not required by the USA anymore so israeli's did their dirty work like always.

Re: Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

Zia was Killed by ISI and Gen. Baig,

Re: Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

^^ Just curious, why? Wasn't he equally fundamentalist?

Re: Nuggets from a Mad Ambassador to Delhi

That may be true. However Pak army was still important. Zia was the closest of “American ally” US could ever hope. He used to dine with Senator Brownback while he was a major. As a Brigadier, he taught a lesson to Palestinian militants, and as a General, he was the key player in kicking out Commies.

Zia might have brought Maulanas in the play, but he afterall was a diplomat. Just remember his “Cricket diplomacy” with Bharat and many other stints that were more in line with the new world order.

Some of Zia’s generals like Aslam Beg and Hamid Gul were on the other hand true fundamentalists and rabid Islamists. No wonder Zia’s son accused Aslam Beg for the crash that took Zia’s life.

Your effort to bring Hariri in this affair is not fair. Syria is a little pipsqueak, a spoiler in the Middle East.

Pakistan on the other hand has always been the Ally of allies in the region. Think 1970 Jordan or 1984 Saudi Arabia. Militants in both cases were almost successful in their attempts to bring Pro-Commie regimes if not for the valiant efforts of Pak army. That is why my friend US will always treat Pak army with kid-gloves.

Best regards
