I’m really starting to like the whole nude lip look, expecially teamed with dramatic smokey eyes. I never used to like them before because I prefer colour on my lips but I think they can look really good if done right. My natural lip colour is a very very pigmented pink though so it’ll probably create problems when it comes to wearing a nude lip :hinna:
So, what nude lipstick’s do you girls use and what would you recommend? Pictures/swatches would be really helpful! Any tips on how to achieve the perfect nude lip?
I went to my local MAC store and the sales assistant recommended MAC’s Myth lipstick but I’m not sure it’s pale pink undertones worked well against my NC20/25 skin tone, I think Myth suits people with cooler undertones better. I’m thinking of trying MAC’s Freckletone or Peachstock as they have warmer undertones. I’ve heard great things about NARS’s Belle de Jour lipstick and Bobbi Brown’s lipstick in Uber Beige as well. Has anyone tried these lippies? Cheaper alternatives are more than welcome as well!
There are a couple of colors I use by Estee Lauder - I like their lipsticks because their moisture is pretty good. I wear them over a chapstick by neutrogena so I dont worry about dry lips all day.
I can't remember their names, right now, and I dont have them on me right now.
I wear Julie Hewett Los Angeles’ Thandie Lipstick. I don’t have my own pictures of it, but you can see some here. Thandie is a shimmery, rosy nude that never fails to garner compliments for me; my only complaint is that the formula contains Phenoxyethanol and is extremely drying. That said, I still wear the shade as often as I can and would gladly wear it to my own wedding.
I love Velvet teddy by mac. Its one of the most versatile lipsticks I have--good alone or with pretty much any combination of lipliner, lipstick or lipgloss.
PCG, I actually have an Estee Lauder lipstick called Rose Tea! Is it from their Pure Colour range? it’s very pretty but not really a nude, more like a dusky pink.
Maroush, just checked out a swatch of Hug me and it’s really pretty, I’m liking the subtle hint of pink to it! Do you wear it alone or under a lipgloss?
Roxx, I am loving that colour! Such a lovely shade of pink! I think that colour will translate differently on my lips though, it’ll end up looking brighter. I don’t think we get that brand here in the UK either, never seen it around
Sara, Velvet teddy looks like a matte version of Hug me. Is it drying on the lips at all?
Thanks girls, Keep the suggestions coming!
Also, how do you guys apply nude lipsticks in order to stop your natural lip colour from bleeding through? I’ve tried blotting foundation/powder to neutralise my lip colour but then my lips just end up looking cakey
There's already a thread on this but we'll let it stay here. Body shop's number 42 is quite nice, MAC's fanfare, Mac's brave, Mac's hug me are all really nice nude colours.
The shade doesn’t look as pink in person as it does in the blog pictures; it’s much more of a reddish-brownish-pinkish-tawny (if that makes sense). And if you’re worried about brightness, I assure you: it’s a relatively sheer formula and it takes several applications/swipes to build up the color.
I wasn’t aware that you’re based in the UK, but it’s my understanding that Mise Beautydoes carry it.
Because the formula of the lipstick is quite sheer, I forgo lipliner (even the nude kind) altogether and simply apply the color to moisturized lips and wipe off any smear. The color doesn’t bleed and stays in place fairly well, after the initial application/clean-up.
I’ve never really experienced bleeding/feathering from sheer lipsticks (though they may be more prone to smearing).
I think whatever shade you decide to wear, a good tip is to apply your foundation over your lips as well, to even them out and create a nice even base for your lipstick.
I usually where Mac's Pretty Please, Blankety, Honey love, myth, Hue, cherish.
These are all nude or flesh tones which seem to work well with Asian skin.
I've noticed some desis look weird with nude lipsticks ( esp when the colour is similar to their foundation). It's makes them look washed out or even like a ghost lol
mama ki dua...yes u absolutly right...becuz our desis lips are big dark..so when we use nude lipstick it really looks like ghost/ill...
i dunno..isnt it better to use then a lipstick wid a bit coral or pink in it...so it gives a bit colour ur face...?? or is that too much when u go for smokey eyes ??
The key is to use a slightly 'fleshy' color instead on nude/beige.. that's true MKD it does make one looked washed-out. You might as well apply concealer to your lips and vaseline!
