Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
I think the reason that he delayed internal elections was not only the late advent of the idea but it also insulated his candidates from attacks since no one knew who they were? ;)
Jo huwa achcha huwa. Now, he can show if he is taliban khan or "liberal" err insaan in KP govt. Imran has dictatorial tendencies ranging back from the cricket days and his admiration of singapore PM (too hard to pronounce his name) and mahathir. Now, he will have to mellow just like BJP had to cool down to govern india in the nineties. You can say it was rigged, but bhutto won fair and square at least in W. pakistan and look what he did by quota system and nationalization.
Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
The one thing that is in favour of all the future provincial governments is that apart from Punjab (Like him or loathe him but SS was the best CM by some distance) there was little governance seen any of the other provinces
Surely future CMs of Sindh, KP and Balochistan can't do any worse than their predecessors!
Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
Sindh and punjab are getting the same parties again so fingers are crossed that they would do worse than last time. One can hope that civil society activism doesn't die down because to enforce from the top down, there has to be initiative and accountability from the bottom up. Messiahs can't come and fix pakistan.

**- Drones: **Saying 'I would shoot down US drones' did not go down too well with the Pak military or the US ...'Our party is against drones in principle but if we do get in power, we would discuss the issue with all the political parties and the military leadership and then do what is in the best interests of the nation' is a more mature response. NS is also anti-US drones but he is not that blunt about anything in public.
It is a disgrace to see the sovereignty of pakistan being abused and no one not single person has the guts to say enough is enough these drones are illegal and should stop now!
no other nation in the world with an ounce of honor would allow these terrorist weapons drones to bomb our people anytime anyplace.
Nawaz sharif was giving anti american cheap slogans before election and now already gone pro america soon as he elected may allah(swt) curse these sellouts and cheap politicians that we have!
Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
Why are you obsessed with PTI? Why can't people on this forum think objectively for a second?
All I am saying is in polling stations where the votes cast were > registered voters (139 stations) and where voter turnout was 100% (49), the ECP has a moral duty to reexamine (match thumb impressions, delete bogus or duplicate votes etc.) the results
whether anyone gains seats, loses seats or seats remain unchanged is besides the point
1) I'm not obsessed with PTI. Its PTI people who have hard time accepting the election results. Other defeated parties, ANP and PPP, have moved on.
2) What you're asking for is a almost impossible task. Its impossible to match thumb print to ballots papers b/c ballots don't have voters name on them. So, how are you going to match & to whom & with what?

I believe EC can match your voter registration number against your name and thumb print and so on
It's like board exams where you you don't write your name but the candidate number (assigned to you by the board) on your examination sheet. The board can easily match each candidate's number against their name.

I am also against drones but in politics you have to say things with tact. You don't need to be so blunt about everything, that's all
Tens of hundreds of residents of cantonment on Saturday faced a lot of difficulties while exercising their right of franchise for electing their representative for the seat of NA-54 owing to carelessness of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The voters, who turned out in massive numbers faced a lot of problems during the general elections 2013, including being improperly informed about their polling stations and vote numbers, and at the same the staff deputed at polling stations did not come up with some solution to the problems faced by the electorates.
Moreover, the makeshift polling booths were insufficient to cater to the needs of voters due to which the polling process slowed down considerably.
A large number of voters also complaints about the temporary tables made of cardboard which also added to their problems while stamping on the election symbols of their candidates. On the other hand, the polling agents, deputed by different candidates, also failed to mitigate the maladies of their voters.
Many candidates provided the transport facilities to their voters from home to polling stations and then back to their homes.
A survey conducted by TheNation on Saturday on several polling stations of NA-54 and PP-10, revealed that the turnout of voters was beyond expectations as men, women, old aged people thronged polling stations to vote for their candidates.
Shiza Yasmin, a young girl with PTI flag painted on her face, told TheNation that she got an SMS from ECP mobile service according to which her vote was registered at FG Boys High School Westridge. “But the Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding officers shocked me by informing that I had no right to cast my vote in this polling station,” she said, adding that she was feeling stress as nobody was here for solving her problem.
The law enforcement agencies made foolproof security arrangements on all the polling stations. Pakistan Army and Rangers kept patrolling the whole day to maintain law and order situation.

Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
1. Hopefully the most important lesson that IK has learned (it is a learning curve for everyone) from the whole election process is that in politics you cannot speak in absolute terms. You cannot be outright anti anything. Doesn't mean you lie to the public but you have to say things with tact. You have to show flexibility and pragmatism.
'I won't make alliance with any parties' .... ab zaroorat pari na!! He needs the support of others in order to form a government in KP and again if he wants to become the opposition leader in the NA.
*2. * IK needs to tone down his language and refrain from personal attacks in future. Because he is so aggressive many PTIans are aggressive and abusive on social media which reflects badly on the whole party. Other party supporters incl. PML-N, MQM and PPP jiyalas etc. are no different but PTIans need to set a good example for others if they claim to want Jinnah's Pakistan. By all means criticise the policies, governance and performance of the government and various parties but refrain from personal attacks. Raising your bat in jalsas and saying I would hit Mian Sahib with it (mein Mian Sahib ki phenti lagaon ga) is not right. Such bad language hurt him in Punjab
3. Some of the things IK says are a bit childish. 'I will convert all Governor Houses and CM Houses into playgrounds or Universities'. Where would you live then? On the streets!!! Tackling corruption does not mean that those elected can't live in style or have to live like sh**. 'We would minimise the misuse of public funds and w'd cut down on our VVIP expenses and excesses' is a much better way of saying it
Will he have the same fire in his belly in 5 years's time?
Problem is, the Pakistani public is not used to facts or straightforward truth. Moreover, we are left with virtually no ego, thanks to our boot licking PMs from the past....which is why noone has ever had the guts to question America on drones...even if it kills 10 civilians for 1 terrorist. We need an infusion of self respect, and unfortunately, we cannot get that with the like of NS and AZ. Just look at the comments section in any news on Yahoo that is related to Pakistan. Even if it is a positive news, the comments are insulting, and degrading to say the least.
Imran's language may be crude, but he has never made personal attacks against anyone in a personal context. His attacks have always been in the political context. It is the opposition parties that have always attacked him personally. Attacks against Jemima and Imran's inlaws were common place in PML-Ns previous stint. Even recently, we have heard folks talk about Sita White, jew inlaws, voting for PTI is haram etc. Imran has never stooped to that level.
Governor house/CM house is not the only place to live in the world. These grand structures are not meant for a country like Pakistan. President house with a polo ground? Not even White house has that. Rafiq Tarar used to live in his own house while President. It can be done, and should be the first step towards austerity. Daily expenses of these palaces run in the millions. Problem is, we as Pakistanis are used to listening to BS....and are not used to straightforward bluntness.
well that's how it is in the UK
Just curious
That is correct. However, 2.5 million tax paid on a declared income of 130 million rupees is a joke. 2% tax rate? I want some of that. I remember in my last job in Pakistan as a salaried employee, I was paying an 11% tax rate....and the rate is always higher for businesses. So Mr. Sharif should have been paying something like 30%+....but he has one heck of an accountant (Ishaq Dar)
Re: NS to IK: Let us work together for the good of the country
It is encouraging to see these statements from the upcoming government in Pakistan. We believe being able to put aside personal narratives and working out differences for the sake of the entire country’s benefit is a step in the right direction. As we can fairly see examples of this kind of a challenge faced by many governments around the world including our own political environment. We hope that for the sake of eradicating terrorism and bringing peace and stability in Pakistan different factions can come to a table to discuss the future of Pakistan. U.S. Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. State Department has recently spoken to Nawaz Sharif affirming our stance that we are willing and looking forward to working with the upcoming government.
