I have to go to a formal desi event and like…seriously…I have nothing to wear
I have some good shalwaar kameezes, I went to Pakistan a year ago and got several, but like for all of last year, I have been wearing the same three/four outfits at all my college functions and like I really need some good new shalwar kameezes coz by now everyone’s already seen me in the ones I have more than once I was supposed to go in the summer but didn’t go so I have nothing new
Its so complicated to ask someone to send clothes from Pakistan coz even if the color and material is good, the stitching is never right And then sending it is expensive and the whole process takes ages…Desi shops here are so expensive and you think, if I can get the same thing for a thousand rupees in Pakistan why should I spend so many hundred dollars on it here…
I have the same problem. I usually end up buying my clothes here ... for Eid/weddings ... and they are so bloody expensive ... go from $185 - $250 CDN ... and that's if you want good quality, nice style/embroidery, etc. Whenever we've asked our relatives in Pakistan to make us clothes, they always screw it up ... make it 10x larger than our actual size which can't even be sewn in cause of the embroidery ... or just get plain ugly clothes. Sucks!
I just asked my friend to bring me clothes from Pakistan. She brought two gorgeous outfits ... one which fit perfectly and one which was made for a petite girl ... totally useless. I was lucky enough to sell it though.
Can you sew? If so, then make your own design...or find someone who can sew. I guess it's too late if the event is tomorrow.
Now, a very good family friend of ours is in Pakistan getting me clothes and jewelery. I gave her my exact measurements. Hopefully, she will have good taste and bring back something nice.
Mehnaz - Exactly what I’m saying! Hope your family friends brings back some nice clothes for you…
I can sew I guess, I used to a long time back, but like who’s got the time you know, to get the fabric, cut it, sew it etc…and you can’t even get the right kind of fabric here…
I think I might borrow something from my friend from tomorrow
CA - mein real life mein niqab naheen karti yaar, yahi to sara masla hae
so you have only four outfits?? or do you consider four of your outfits in-fashion? mujhe bhi yehi problem hota hai hamesha lekin jab main apne saare kapre nikaal kar dekhti hoon to mujhe apne puraane outfits mai say koi aisa dress zaroor miljata hai jo main party mai pahen sakoon…If it’s not your sis/bro’s wedding or your best friend’s birthday then in an event like this where your pictures won’t be taken you can wear a dress which isn’t neccesarily in-fashion but something that looks good on you …
same problem here, but i guess im lucky, i can sew & the material available here is quite good too...hey you can sew a suit in less than a day if you are determined & really have no other choice:D
I don't see the point in wearing the clothes just once esp since they cost a lot and its just a few hours. What I do is wear something really simple it can be something you have worn before just buy some nice earrings, the new big indian-pakistani style earings that are in. You'll look different than everyone else, which is a good thing and it will save you money! :)

mehroo: ur ami is so right :D It happens all the time.
i never have that problem..most of the time i get enough clothes from pakistan to last me for a while..if i have some emergency..i can always go and buy material and my mom can sew it for me..sometimes i do get unstitched clothes as gifts so they can be stitched for emergencies..and lastly i go and buy readymade suits at time (but only the ones on sale :D ). My problem is that i get so many clothes that i don't know what to do with them..so i keep on giving them away to my cousins/family friends.
