Nothing suits me???

im getting married in summer…i dont live in pakistan so i have no clue about pakistani fashion.

my problem is that WHATEVER i wear in desi clothes, i look like a tractor, big and ugly…even though im pretty slim

im going to make my bridal outfit, my jahez clothes..so i really need your help…What will suit me???
i have a hourglass figure…big hips, slim waist ..im 167 cm and my weight is 55 kgs…

which kind of lehnga should i have???
how long should my kameez be?(i dont care about fashion, just let me know what will look good on me)…will shalwar suit me or churidars?

im attaching some pics and let me know if any of these styles will suit me

Fish lehnga?

  1. Fitting kameez..No chaak…show the hips or not???

  2. i look like a cow when i wear short kameez :frowning:

  3. wont this make me look fat ?

Every tip is appreciated

Thankuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Not sure. The angel wings in the first picture will accentuate your hourglass figure, but the second outfit looks pretty too (though less seraphic).

Re: Nothing suits me???

2nd one will look nice...with long sleeves

First and foremost, have confidence in your curves. Most brides (no matter how ugly they may feel) look gorgeous on their wedding day. I’ve seen some curvy girls totally rock their wedding outfits. Confidence is attractive and it’s a must! So, don’t omit that from your style

Okay, here are some websites that gives fashion tips about how to wear DESI clothes according to the shape of your figure.

http://www.idiva.com/bin/idiva/Your-salwar-kameez-guide

As quoted from the above website:

For those with wider hips:

**"So, you have a luscious bottom and you want to tone it down. Think soft, flowy fabrics that don’t cling to your body and offer a feminine silhouette.

Shinde suggests, “Avoid anything that looks puffy. Don’t wear puffy or balloon sleeves instead get a nice off-shoulder kurta. Your salwar should not be a patiala or voluminous. Wear churidaars, pants or leggings and go for knee-length or below the knee kurtas.”

A-line kurtas will trim broad hips and you can also have interesting detailing around the hem."**

This website Women's Ethnic Clothing Online - Buy Salwar Kameez, Lehengas, Sarees/Saris, Gowns & Kurtis - Seasons India suggests for bigger hips:

[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"It is important not to wear fitted, short garments that emphasise your hips. Instead wear moderately loose and longer lengths in thicker fabrics to give a longer and leaner look**."**

This website 10 tips for finding a proper fitting Indian dress says:

**"Wear light colours where you are small and dark colours where larger. For eg. If you have large hips, wear dark skirts or pants and light coloured blouse.Don’t choose clothes that are too tight. Clothes that fit well make you appear slimmer while tight clothes will only add pounds.

Avoid clothes that draw attention to what you feel are your negative features. For instance avoid clothing that is too tight that will over emphasis your features."

**IN other websites, I’ve also read that A-line dresses are better at narrowing wider hips. So, based on the above information, I think that (out of the pics that you have posted)…go for # 2 because it’s slimming from the waist downwards.

Re: Nothing suits me???

nottt a fish lehnga!!!

^ Yes, a fish lehnga or mermaid lehnga (I LOVE THEM) would not be the best option because it hugs the hips and accentuates them.

Although I saw on the web something called an A-line fishtail lehnga. I dunno if that is different somehow.

Actually, Fishtail-style lenghas are excellent choices for women with pear-shaped or hourglass figures (more so than a-line or straight skirts) when they taper at, or slightly above the knee, as the widened hem makes the hips look smaller by comparison. My favorite fishtail lenghas:

Anywho, the lengha will work better if the skirt and blouse are one color, and the embroidery is retsricted to the below the knee; embroidery or a different color around the hips will only serve to emphasize that area. The pink band around the first lengha pictured above isn’t the best idea for someone with curvy hips, nor is the difference in color between the skirt and blouse, I just chose it because it’s pretty.

The second lengha would be perfect, save for the elaborate embroidery around the hips; that’s a no go. The skirt’s embroidery should stop at or below the knees, wherever the skirt tapers.

  1. Fish lehnga: It depends on how you feel about your curvy hips. If you want to accentuate your hips then wearing a fish lehnga will be fine, but if you want to hide the hips, then go for more of an A-line cut that flows away from your hips.

  2. This is beautiful. You can absolutely pull this off!

  3. Fitting kameez..No chaak...show the hips or not: The kameez can be fitted if you have it in slightly more of an A-line shape. If the kameez is clinging to your hips, it will only intensify your hips.

  4. I look like a cow when I wear short kameez: Short kameez looks good but if you feel you look like a cow which I'm sure you don't but if you feel that way, then wear it with those capri pants. A short kameez and the capri look give a slimmer look in a weird way but it does.

  5. Won't this make me look fat: Nope. Not at all. The anarkali look will not make you look fat. It flows away from the hips giving your hips a smaller look. Also, the band or kaam that is usually on anarkali's around the waist gives the affect of a thiner waist. It works well for the hour-glass figure.

Hope this helps!!
=-)

i love this, it is so elegant and classy…and i think it would look amazing on you,iA!

i have curves and a slim waist, i found mermaid lenghas are perfect (fishtail are a bit too dramaticly straight and then flared) heres a picture of a mermaid lengha i think shows off curves in a nice way

also if you are going to wear an anarkali or pishwass try to find something fitted through the waist and then flares out at the hips

cuts like these:

I think if you have big hips salwar pants are your best friend (if you wear churidars sometimes it’s noticeable if you have bigger legs if not no big deal) and if you do decide to wear a fishtail you may want to drape your dupatta in a way to kinda hide it. something similar to the style the girls are wearing it in this poster:

http://l.yimg.com/t/movies/movietalkies/20090526/12/merejeevansaathi-2005-2b-1_1243321791.jpg

just as when we wear american clothing to slim a bigger bust like wearing a v-neck with a contrasting color underneath can be a good thing outfits like these should also flatter you. same goes for v styled work on an outfit

anyhow congrats and good luck with your shopping and upcoming wedding planning.

this one is better cus it have long shirt..
anyways love this dress its very preety

Re: Nothing suits me???

thanx alot girls....what about saris?..will they suit me?

If you have an hourglass figure: yes!

  • Mermaid lehnga's make your hips look wider
  • A fitted bodice or empire-waist with either fitted or churidar sleeves
  • A kameez that falls below your hips
  • Small, 'chaak's'
  • A lighter blouse and a darker lehnga
  • Shalwars with less 'ghair' and straight-pants work well
  • Stay away from patiala's and short kameez'es

Re: Nothing suits me???

i have the same problem!! when it comes to desi clothes....only some outfits suit me, others make me look fat!

Okay heres what I learned....
-salwar kameez with 3/4 or full sleeves (fitted) make you look slimmer than half sleeves.

-I have big hips...stay away from fish cut lehnga's! they only emphasize your hips.

-Anarkali's look good, but only the soft material one's....so stay away from that last picture! also if you have big chest, stay away from it altogether.

-Capri salwar kameez with heels, give attention to your angles, so you'll look a bit slimmer. Another plus if your kameez is 3/4 or longer sleeved.

-short shirts and churidar's only look good on models! your big hip/butt will stick out from the side...stick with salwar or capri's.

-Patiala salwar are nice, but since there is soo much fabric by your hips, you'll look short and emphasize hips.

-If you love short sleeves but hate your arms in it (like me) get sleeves made where it is up to your elbows (its also in fashion) ...and if your getting it made....try getting "alot of kaam" done on your sleeves part, this draws attention away from your arms and onto the "kaam" of the cloth.

-Never buy a lehnga (usually indian lehnga's are like this) where your shirt falls just at or a little bit above where your lehnga starts. This will draw attention to your hips, make sure the shirt is longer than where your lehnga starts (if not longer).

-Heel's do wonders to body slimming

-Lehnga with long shirt will look great on you

hope i helped! :)
