Noted Indian social activists ask Delhi not to use force in Kashmir

LAHORE: Noted Indian journalists and social activists have asked the Indian government to restrain itself from using force against what a statement called an “undisputedly non-violent movement” in the Indian-held Kashmir. “We have news from Kashmir that curfew has been clamped in all the eight district of the Kashmir valley as a prelude to cracking down with force on what is today undisputedly a non-violent movement,” said the statement, signed by Anand Chakravarti, Arundhati Roy, Aruna Roy, Gautam Navlakha, Mahashweta Devi, Medha Patkar, Nikhil Dey, Prashant Bhushan and Sanjay Kak. “To open fire on unarmed civilians will send a very grave and damaging message. It would be particularly disturbing given that militants have announced their decision to silence their guns,” said the statement, dated August 24. “We appeal to the Indian government to restrain itself from the use of force against the people of Kashmir. We urge the government to lift the curfew and give peace a chance.” staff report

They are many people in India who are just and peaceful and advocate peace. I hope their voices don't fall on deaf ears.

Also there were Sane voices in Pakistan too when the security forces entered Lal Masjid. What needs to be done done has to be done. There is no point in dilly dallying.

Let's just ignore the completely inane nature of that analogy (frankly I dont expect any better from the Hindutva crowd).

The Pakistani government's brutal handling of the Lal Masjid incident was the beginning of the end for the Musharraf administration. Let's hope that India's current spate of state-sponsored terrorism is the beginning of the downfall of Indian occupation in Kashmir.

This gives a good perspective on your thought process. What happened in Lal Masjid was required and had to be done. To just think that there would be a beginning of the downfall of IOK is like being on a high on something. People have talking like this for years....

Re: Noted Indian social activists ask Delhi not to use force in Kashmir

This shows how liberal is India and how free are Indios :)

Naturally, as an Indian, you support all forms of state-sponsored terrorism and war crimes, provided the targets aren't Hindu...so I'm hardly surprised by your attitude. What can you expect from a nation that carries out & supports all manners of barbarities?

Here in the civilized world, we consider the use of white phosphorus and other chemical weapons in a building housing schoolchildren (among others) to be a war crime.

Where would your civilzed world be right now .... srinagar or san fransico ... or is it in Pakistan ..... i doubt as you would not say this siting in Pakistan.

Is civilized world consisted of FATA and Quetta?

Re: Noted Indian social activists ask Delhi not to use force in Kashmir

There are innocent, helpless people who live in FATA, Quetta, and everywhere in the world. Wherever there's violence, there are innocent lives who are caught in the crossfire.
