Not you ...

So lets say you are almost done with your higher education, but it suddenly hits you that this career is not you at all ..

What would you do? What would be your thoughts?

Find a way to use the skills you've learned in a career that does interest you. There are so many options out there for any course of study:

A doctor need not practice medicine, they can research, review cases for an health insurance company.

A lawyer need not practice law, they can teach, go into business, provide advisory services for a company, be a lobbyist.

A teacher need not teach - they can be curriculum planner, teacher union rep.

And on and on it goes. Take your education in a direction that explores your other interests and iA, you'll find satisfying career path.

And if all else fails, you can always open a cupcake shop...

Re: Not you ...

yup what she said...

^ You lika the cupcake shop - you buy my cupcakes? I giffa good discount...

Re: Not you ...

I am on a diet :( unless you can make me carb free protein plus fat free cupcake that taste heavenly.

Two of my ex-collegues have quit and have become bakers. And they are doing pretty good. So yes I think your idea has lots of merit.

Re: Not you ...

haha thanks Sehrysh .. I think the cupcake idea is good, just afraid I might eat them all :(

I actually ran the idea past my mum. I told when I had saved up a certain sum of money, I was going to leave my career behind and open up a cupcake shop (she wasn't impressed).

Sometimes I regret not working in the public sector, I could have looked forward to taking early retirement with an amazing pension and benefits and then lived out my dream of a cupcake shop.

Oh well, I guess it's still not too late aur Inshallah, my cupcake shop will happen soon enough.

Re: Not you ...

Make as much money as I could instead then if possible change it?

Or spend it on the lottery, shaaid kuch jeet hee jaon

Eating a cupcake should be a crime

They have feelings too

Re: Not you ...

Never too late to switch. In fact, having other degrees under your belt when applying to other programs can diversify your resume and you can always pull some original crackpot reason of how you're going to combine the degrees.

It's just that you're losing money and time. Unless you were on scholarship. In which case, you're just losing time.

Re: Not you ...

I'd start working with what I have and also take admissions in education line that I think is for me.

I want a parlour......

Re: Not you ...

I know for a fact that I will only work in my field until I get bored, after that it's gonna be something different, probably a business degree- if you don't like what you do, just change it. Go study something else, whatever you have will never be wasted anyways!

Re: Not you ...

I changed my major in my junior year and yes my parents freaked out in the beginning.

Thats my retirement plan!

The person is not very smart.

I know people who did change in the middle of education and not when almost done.

I mean what is the guarentee that the person will not feel this 'suddden' need for change in career again?

Try best to stick to it, make the best out of what is already almost done and perhaps add some different flavor to it as time goes by.

Re: Not you ...

i will cry

Re: Not you …

Its been two years in accountany and i want to go back to medicine:bummer:

Re: Not you ...

as soon as you realise your not happy doing what you do then change. No point in carrying on if your heart and soul isn't in it. Change and do what you feel is right but don't give up education, follow your dreams and instill that passion into doing something you actually enjoy! Good luck

Re: Not you ...

I spent 3 years studying a Law degree and enjoyed it alot. However, its been 2 years and iv just been doing different things (nothin within the legal sector) but now I might pursue it further, not entirely sure. Go with the flow and see where it takes you :) If your heart is not in it, then just try something new.

I would too.
