I think it's a continuous series of clashes between tradition and non-tradition. I don't want to share personal details so Ill leave it at that. Jazak allah for advice :)

Look these are two different things one if they dont respect , do backbiting / taunt just because they dont like him / her or just heck of it... then they better mind their own business

But if thier is lack of understanding / compatibility issues between in laws and spouse then it should be sorted out amicably.

But it appears that the issue being discussed here is lack of respect or acceptance
