Is there anyone here who has not taken folic acid, or pre-natal vitamins and still delivered a healthy normal baby. I can’t seem to take these pills.
I am just thinking my mom didn’t take all these pills and we were delivered as normal healthy babies alhamdulillah. Is there really any harm to not taking these pills. The morning sickness and constipation is just something I can’t handle right now and the pills cause that.
I have posted tis before but yes I didn't take pre natals..I just couldn't keep them down! My midwife took me off for couple of days during the 7 weeks n in ever went back to it. However later I took yummy bear multivitamins very often.. Ot regularly though! And when was dig owed with severe anemia, I took iron syrup(floradix) it doesn't cause constipation but tastes n smells like rust!
However, now that's a big however my pregnancy was full of issues..I wonder if it was any different had I taken my prenatal..my body just kept giving up on me as we moved forward so I will never advise not taking prenatal, I m sure it makes a difference!
Ps! I was eating very healthy...my snacks were fruits n I had very minimal junk n sweet stuff!
GTG, my first was full of trouble coz of stress even though I was taking all the pre-natal vits, folic acid and iron. Constipation, morning sickness, UTIs, Yeast infections, baby's heart beat was irregular....PUPPS right after delivery.
Was just talking to my mom, she was going thru some tough times while having me and my other sibling, (financial) so not a lot of cash to eat well and also just going thru tough time with a new place and dad working two jobs and going to college. She had us all fine and dandy ( her health suffered she was weak but we were normal) Makes me think if these meds are being forced upon us.
My diet is so so... I'm just feeling so blah .... just praying that baby is healthy and here soon. Honestly I think kid out is better than kid inside....

Just FYI - if constipation is the only reason stopping you from taking iron supplements, you do get prenatal iron + multivitamin tablets that have a stool softener in it.
i took until 13 weeks and honestly could not keep them down, had horrible taste as soon as i took. my doc told to stop taking it after 13 weeks and i was glad to do, i am doing fine so far Aalhumdiliah, no issues. it is now that i am in my last trimester and my doc advised to me to take only iron tablets as i am only little bit lower than the normal iron level.
What doc. said that during pregnancy the prenatal are more for the mother than the baby.
Yes, according to my doc, the baby will take what it needs, but it can leave your bones and muscles very weak.
I did not take any of those pills that u r supposed to take during pregnancy due to certain non health related reasons but my daughter is doing fine now Masha Allah !
But this does not mean that you should not take those pills if u can then plz do !
I don't know about other prenatal supplements, but folic acid, yes. Let's put it this way: Moms who don't take folic acid have a higher chance of having babies with defects than moms who do. Sure you can have a healthy baby without having taken supplements, but you increase the risk of not having a healthy baby.
Our moms ate better than we did I think...fresher foods, more variety, locally grown organic produce. They probably got more rest as well, were exposed to less toxicities and purer air...maybe. Taking prenatals is definitely great, but if you cannot, then do eat proper balanced meals.
I wouldn't take my chances and not take the prenatal/folic acid. Generally, we don't have the required folic acid in our diet that a pregnant woman need. I've heard of cases where the babies were born with serious abnormalities as a result of mothers not taking folic acid. I didn't take prenatal/folic acid everyday. Just 3-4 times a week. Prenatal I think you can skip if you have a very good diet but folic acid... I wouldn't skip that. All of this is very good for your body too not just baby's. Baby takes everything he'll need from you so once he is born, your body will become weak.
There have been mothers coming to the OB/Gyn clinic for the first time, in their 6, 7 and even 8th month of pregnancy, and when asked, they weren't taking any multivitamins or folic acid. When the U/S was performed for them, the babies were smaller for their gestational age, which is not a good thing. Also, in the olden times, the women would be breastfeeding, and later on in the years their teeth would just fall off, because their bodies require the calcium which they aren't gaining from their diet, so instead the body takes it from things you don't really need, like teeth.
