Not Good Mr. Chappel...Don't be so cocky

It is an absolutely mind boggling decision by Indian Cricket Management to rest Indian skipper Dravid in the upcoming match against Sri Lanka. Despite the fact that the one day series against Sri Lanka has been sealed in India’s favor, one can not imagine setting up a strategy which results in the exclusion of the skipper from the playing IX so that he can take some “rest”. What? Dravid has been appointed captain for only 2 ODI series. Why would he want to rest after playing 5 matches instead of leading his team from the front? I think Chappel and Co. are being too cocky and this decision could backfire. He is fit and I think he should play. I mean you can rest other players but you probably do not want to rest your newly appointed captain. Let me say that despite all of his brilliance, Chappel has some serious problem with his strategic approach towards the game. Right now, because of Chappel’s extreme experimentation, Indian team is literally looking like a theatrical team in which every actor is waiting for the director to make a decision about his role and the time when to appear on stage.

Re: Not Good Mr. Chappel...Don't be so cocky

I dont agree with you, i think chappel is doing quite good job so far and the motive behind resting Dravid could well be trying to groom another Captain, who could be deputy of Dravid in coming future.

Weather he is trying to completely block any way for Saurave to Sneak back in team or not by establishing a strong vice captain . But i think he is making right decision for Indian cricket

Re: Not Good Mr. Chappel...Don't be so cocky

Nobody is indispensible, look at what the youngsters have come and done to this Indian team. Chappel is doing the right thing by preventing players from being strait jacketed.

Re: Not Good Mr. Chappel...Don't be so cocky

Dravid was not fit.. Doesn't make sense to play..

Phoenixdesi,

I think you are saying this just because its Indians who are doing it. I think what Chappel is doing is reallh smart move. Every team should have good bench strength to cover for injury/non-performance of regulars. And best way of doing it is to give your fringe guys match practice and find out in the process who can do what? It also avoids complacency from senior stablished player. With Gaqmbhir doing so well , Sehwag and Sachin cannot be compalcent. Similarly Raina is shaping up well in middle order. He puts good pressure on Kaif and Yuvraj. RP Singh is making sure that Irfan,Agarkar are on their toes.

This is the best thing Chappel has done.It kills 2 birds in one stone. Reduces star culture and prepares bench strength. It is not about being cocky.Best time to try was this time when you have already sealed the series 4-0.

Talking of Dravid.Yes he was given captaincy for only 2 series. But everyone knows that He is there for a long stinct. Also we wanted to give kaif a chance.
