Not Fasting

**“**O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become Al-Muttaqun (the pious).
(Fasting) for a fixed number of days, but if any of you is ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) from other days. And as for those who can fast with difficulty, they have (a choice either to fast or) to feed a poor person (for every day). But whoever does good of his own accord, it is better for him. And that you fast, it is better for you if only you know.” (2:183-84)

I do NOT understand why people make Islam sound a difficult religion when Islam is extremely flexible.

What I’ve Qouted is from Qur’an. It clearly states that obviously it is better for you if you fast but if you’re having difficulty fasting you have a choice either to fast or feed a poor person. Feeding a poor person will not get you as much “sawab” I believe but it will save you from being sinned for not fasting. That’s my interpretation of this Qoute. What do you think?

P.S - In my opinion, some difficulties could be…being very old, weak, working full time and not being able to be physically productive at work because of fasting.

and please keep in mind - we're not talking about Islamic countries where people get half days in Ramzan. I'm talking about western countries where you work from 9 - 5 or even more hours. It may be possible for some to fast while working but not everyone is that strong.

Re: Not Fasting

its nt dt hard to fast 9-5 when ur perfectly well

Re: Not Fasting

Yes but also keep in mind that it is one of the 5 pillers of Islam... Believe me, there was a time when i used to wake up 5 in the morning go to uni and then straight from there go to work until 10pm during Ramadan.... And AlhamduAllah i still fasted the whole Ramadan.. Even now i go to school and work at the same time (my work is not physically tiring yet mentally tiring job, it is accounting).. I think if i can do it and you being older than me and more energic i think you can do it as well... :)

Allah (swt) always gives u strenght, when you want to do something good for him..

Re: Not Fasting

It's good that you remind people of this. Fasting can be extremely unhealthy for many people (the sick, elderly, pregnant, or those who work out in the sun--heat stroke, dehydration, etc).

I've tried to fast several times, but my doctors have always strongly recommended against it. So instead, we should all do what we can to make up for not being able to follow one set of rules. Many alternatives are given, so no one should be treated as a lesser Muslim because they don't have the advantage of fasting.
