Not able to to sleep in pregnancy!

AAARRRGGHHH!!

I haven slept properly in a weeks now. I need some help and advice.

I am 15 weeks now Alhumdullilah. I am used to sleeping on my stomach but i cant do that now. I try and sleep on my sides but that too is getting impossible. Sleeping on my back is no longer going to be possible soon as the midwives say that the baby puts pressure on your stomach and everything which will cause sickness etc…

So i dont know what to do. I need ma sleep. I shouldnt complain too much as I am only making my body get used to the fact that i will be up during the night ALOT when the baby is born inshallah.

I cant breathe due to the constant blocked nose and breathe thru the mouth which makes my mouth go very dry. In turn i need water and then makes me rush to the toilet 2-3 times a night…NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK! I have heard of the long pillows which you tuck between your legs..but are they any use? Not used to tucking anything between my legs!

Please ladies help me - i see alot of mothers on here mashallah - help would be very much appreciated!

long sigh

I just feel like i want to cry…my bloody hormones!!!

Re: Not able to to sleep in pregnancy!

Salaam Sister

1st of all congrats!

2ndly, have u tried sleeping upright or in a chair? It doesnt sound so comfortable, but my cousin ended up doing that! or sleeping with something under your stomach (when you lie on your side?)

3rdly...mashallah u r lucky u r in this position, i know many ladies who would yearn to be in ur position...so enjoy it as ur lucky to be going through this experience mashallah..

good luck!

Re: Not able to to sleep in pregnancy!

Congrats SE!!!!

I had much trouble sleeping too. My mom told me that its good practice for when the baby is born lol! But thats not exactly the kind of advice you need so...

Those long body pillows are wonderful! I had two of them and was able to kind of lay on my stomach by propping myself up on the pillows. Stack the pillows and put them next to you and lay on your tummy but put your leg and arm on the pillows. So that your tummy is raised. Thats actually a very comfy position even when not pg.

For the blocked nose, I found that those nasal strips help. They open your nostrils so its easier to breathe and theres no medication involved. Also, some vicks vapo-rub right under your nose might help.

Good luck!

Re: Not able to to sleep in pregnancy!

wait till u get to the 9th month when round ligament pain returns with a vengence and ure hips ACHE so much taht u cant sleep on the same side for more than 30 mins :D

see.. dont u feel better already :D hehe..

the pregnancy pillow (those long pillows u are talking about) did jack for me.. i too LOVE sleeping on my stomach but that was outta the question after the first trimester... sleeping does get a bit easier in the 2nd trimester...

im in my final week (due april 4).. and i havent slept properly in 2 months.. what did help a wee wee wee bit was chaning my mattress to ultra soft (regular mattress was firm cuz i like it like that usually).. but the soft mattress helped cushion my hips a bit..

putting anyting between my legs didnt help, neither did putting it anywhere else around my body...

to be honest.. play around with pillows until u find a comfy spot.. nothing will come close to being comfy enuff but its just a temporary situation :)
the first thing im gonna do when im done being pregnant is sleep on my belly :D
CANT WAIT!

i remember having immense difficulty breathing lying down in my first trimester , couldnt breathe and felt like my chest was weighing my down even more.. so i would prop myself up on 2 pillows.. that helped a lot.. but the difficulty breathing is temporary.. and will go away.

congrats on the pregnancy!!!!

Tabu, i dont think sleeping on the chair is sounding comfortable. How did you cousin find it?

**Yes Alhumdullilah i cannot thank Allah Tallah enough but i am not moaning about my pregnancy at all. Alhumdullilah i am having a lovely time so far - no morning sickness, not being a pain in the butt - am only talking about the difficulty in sleeping. **

Thanks Mama - I keep thinking not being able to sleep is practice for the future but for now i need to get as much sleep as possible.
I am thinking of getting the long pillow and trying it out. It has received some good reviews and has helped many women in pregnancy.
I have the nasal strips and will try them out tonight…we shall see. Thank you so much for your advice.

Thank you!
