‘World leaders should have attended Benazir’s funeral’ Tuesday, January 01, 2008
WASHINGTON: Noted French intellectual Bernard-Henri Levy has lamented the fact that leading Western leaders did not pay tribute to Benazir Bhutto by attending her funeral.
Writing in the Wall Street Journal on Monday, he says, “The best, the most beautiful way of responding would have been for Angela Merkel, George W Bush, Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy to have gone immediately to Pakistan for her funeral. We should have seen, standing behind Benazir’s body, the largest possible number of government leaders and heads of state, to make the funeral a global demonstration on behalf of the values of democracy and peace.
We would have wanted the French president to interrupt his vacation to bid farewell to this great lady, now a martyr, on her last voyage. But no.” Bernard-Levy writes, “From now on Benazir Bhutto will be much more than a chief of state. She has become a symbol. She has become, as did Ahmed Shah Masoud and Daniel Pearl, a standard bearer. . . . Her name must become another password, bloody but beautiful, for those who still believe that the good genius of Enlightenment will win out over the evil genius of fanaticism and crime. It is for us, citizens of Europe and the US, to mourn, to display the grief that our leaders have, at least for the moment, shamefully avoided.” khalid hasan
The Party of Idiots should take note and realise the world does not care nor does it evolve around their puppet leaders. Anyway, the normalcy is already returning to Pakistan and Banazir’s circus seems to be wrapping up just within one week!
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir’s funeral
yup i believe those were the reasons why…along with the threat they themselves faced…if she’s not safe, who’s to say they would have been. I mean can u imagine anyone of them even getting a scratch and the blame going on PPP people out of hatred
We’d have Irack Part2 taking place right this min…glad it was done the way it was
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir's funeral
she like many others was an expendible agent. as she died, plans changed.
btw have major world leaders attended teh funeral of any pakistani leader, civilian or military? this is not a leading question, i am too lazy to go google it
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir's funeral
To add few points other then security situations...there is serious problem of logistics as well. Naudero and all other related areas are pretty underdeveloped, road infrastructure is poor and then the Airport facilities are very poor as well..
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir’s funeral - Sign of a Traito

Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir's funeral
In civilized societies, funerals are dignified affairs with decorum and dignity and guards of honor with fly-bys etc. In Benazir's case, it was just a mob scene where emotions overtook every thing else. No one would want any foreign leader to be there and witness a banana republic burying a slain leader.
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir's funeral
According to what I heard, Benazir's funeral was delayed a bit due to arrival of Sanam Bhutto (sister) from abroad (UK, I think). So waiting a little for people (close family) to arrive from foreign locations is not exactly unheard of. And if we are talking about world leaders, these people don't exactly have to wait in line to buy a PIA ticket or to apply for vacation from their bosses. But the fact is, no one wanted to be there, because it was definitely not a comfortable place to be, for many reasons.

You forgot to mention how Musharraf caused PPP jiayalas to go crazy at her funeral by spraying chemicals in the air. If any guards in army uniforms had shown up, they would likely have been beaten to death by the crowd.

So the looney followers of Pakistani Plunder Party do looney things like beat up disabled children in one of the Edhi hospitals for the mentally ill and that's a soldiers fault?
I'll tell you what, if you ever have a heart attack in your life and die from it, then blame it on your cousins living on the other side of the country for not knowing how to resucitate you.
Re: Not a single world leader bothered to attend Benazir's funeral
By the way, the person who did the shooting and the otherone who blew himself up didn't really look jihadis.
Neither did any of the 9/11 hijackers. Even jihadis know the power of a razor blade.
