Nose piercing

Hi ladies,

Question for you all, I have had a nose piercing for almost two years now. The problem is, whenever I change my pin, the piercing starts to close so quickly…I have to literally replace it within minutes and it still bleeds a little. Then my nose swells a little and stays that way for a day or two.
I was once told by a desi aunty to use a garlic sprout for a couple days (I haven’t tried that because I don’t want to wear it to work (or to family gatherings on weekends). Does anyone know anything that can help (a desi totka perhaps)?

Re: Nose piercing

I got my nose pierced 3-4 months ago.. I have the same problem.. it looks fine and healed from outside but as soon as I take the pin out, it starts bleeding.... I use sea salt water and it helps with the swelling.

Re: Nose piercing

Hey Sana,

Yes, I use the same. It helps temporarily, but I would like a more permanent solution. One of the reasons I was so keen on getting my nose pierced is because I wanted to wear a nathni on my wedding - I love that traditional bridal look. Now with my current situation I don't think I'd be able to do that. Imagine the mess on the wedding night and hubby's horror. And the nose swelling on walima day. eww

Re: Nose piercing

try wearing gold nose pin for a while.

Re: Nose piercing

That's what I've been wearing...

Re: Nose piercing

Is it 22 ct ? I dont know for sure but I had a similar problem with my ear piercing. I had to wear 22 ct for a while.
Also Neem tree's sprout helped me (not sure about garlic) but I was in Pakistan and our neighbors had a Neem tree so it was readily available.

Re: Nose piercing

definitely wear a pure metal like gold.....that helped me.
also try putting honey on it every night before you go to sleep.

Re: Nose piercing

They're 18K white gold.
Yeah, I don't think I'll have any luck finding a neem tree sprout in Toronto. :(

Muzna, does honey help keep the piercing from closing? That's the only problem I'm experiencing. I don't have any infections like some people do.
I got it pierced from an Indian jewelry store owner. He used a gun. I've heard if done improperly, gun piercings can damage the skin tissue. Needles are more effective. I don't know if this is the reason why I am having a problem. My phuphu pierced her own nose with a needle at home. Hers is fine. It hasn't closed in years, whether she wears a pin or not.

Re: Nose piercing

I also got it pierced from a jeweller locally.
For the first 5 years, or so, mine would keep closing as well.....but now that problem doesn't exist.
the honey will not keep it from closing but it will help keep an infection and inflammation away if and when that does happen.

I don't think that you should rely on the 18K white gold rating.......get something 22K.

Re: Nose piercing

Mine kept doing the same thing i've had my nose pierced since i was 16 im now 27 i changed the stud to a 22k gold stud and didnt change it or touch it for a good 2 months or even 3 so it could heal properly. now i can take my stud out and change it etc and it doesnt hurt and doesnt close up. My nose piercing was also done with a gun :D

Re: Nose piercing

Mine was also done with a gun, and had some horror stories that I posted here too :rotfl:
So it’s been 1 and a half year that I changed to a gold one, and I keep ‘turning it’ at least thrice a day. The thing is when it’s swollen, don’t irritate it, or else you’ll end up looking like Red Rudolph LOL.
I think the pins you have are too thin maybe that’s why when you change it, it hurts, try putting a slightly thicker one for a while.

Re: Nose piercing

hmm thanks, everyone. That's helpful. I'll try finding a 22ct gold pin.

Sidra, you're right, the pins I use are thin. I have to wear them to work so it cannot be anything too bling-bling or else I'll get into trouble.

Re: Nose piercing

hahaha I had some troubles with my uni so mine is a bit thicker but the stud is tiny, it's almost unnoticeable =)
