Re: Northern Pakistan
Visited Muree and Burban on a school trip many years ago. I still remember the beauty & serenity of those places. Absolutely loved Mall Road, i've heard it's changed considerably since then.
Have visited several places in Azad Kashmir especially near the control line. One of my favourite places is Thatha Paani where you find hot water springs and a place called Mandol where the two rivers meet, the valley is breathtaking.
Re: Northern Pakistan
I think the North and South of Pakistan are just beautiful and there is no compatible destination in beauty like nort of Pakistan and history culture and architecture of South of Pakistan.

Yeah I recently went to Murree. It was great. It so happens that while we were there, it was also August 14 so there were more ppl there. Really great experience. We had a lot of fun. huh sighs but we had to come back to Lahore after 2 days.
Re: Northern Pakistan
No.But now that you mention it, I think I should!

oh
Re: Northern Pakistan
yup. i've been to maree, sawat, and kaghan sounds very familiar.
it's awesome. the scenery, the way people live - everything. totally different than anything we see here in NA.
i believe we were going up to sawat, and those that have been there - know how the roads are made. around the edges of the mountains, and with snow and ice on the roads, it can actually be quite dangerous driving and going higher.
anyway, we're going up the road, and our van gets stuck. now this is a 15-seater van, so it's quite big. gets stuck in the snow. ahead of us, there's already two cars that are stuck in the snow as well.
and so the pakistani version of CAA or AAA is a little suzuki truck with these big ropes attached to it.
long story short - that little truck helped pull us out :p
pretty cool, eh? :D

Re: Northern Pakistan
From about 1986 to 1996 (year I got married) I took a break every year for about 3 to 4 weeks and went north.
I have been to almost every place worth mentioning.. except for the hardcore ones that require much time effort and money. Like the concordia, base camps of the 8000m peaks and the remote valleys in Baltistan and Gilgit.
My most memorable trip was the trek to Masherbrum base camp. Thats in the Khaplu Valley. We trekked from khaplu via machulu.
Kaghan is also a place worth visiting again and again. I have trekked from naran to the upper kaghan valley, lalazar, besal, burawai, gittidas (didnt cross over babusar). God willing, when I go to Pakistan and can afford a few days, I will visit kaghan once again, just for old times sake.

Took a cool dip in the ice cold waters of Lake Saiful-Maluk, and trekked on the high meadow of Lalazar.
