Northern Ireland Program Director Job Opening

HECUA and the University of Ulster are seeking applicants for the Program Director position to lead the semester program “Northern Ireland: Democracy and Social Change.” This is a great opportunity for someone interested in a teaching and learning model that is interdisciplinary and experiential, requiring critical consideration of theories and perspectives and ethical implications of how we learn and act in the world.

The opening is for a full-time, year round position as a Lecturer in Education (International Exchanges) at the UNESCO Center in the Faculty of Social Sciences at the School of Education of the University of Ulster. The position will be integral to the promotion of its program in education for pluralism, human rights and democracy and to develop and deliver the HECUA “Northern Ireland: Democracy and Social Change” program. The director serves as primary instructor of the program, including organization of field instruction, and fulfills the intent of the program with the assistance of a program assistant and guest lecturers. The director represents the program and HECUA, including campus visits and workshops to promote and serve campus relations initiatives.

Applicants must have a first or upper second class honors degree (U.K. system) in a relevant area and have at least two years’ experience in teaching/training in development education and knowledge of education for pluralism, human rights and democracy. Experience with interdisciplinary/experiential education, student relations, and program administration is preferred. Application deadline of October 17, 2003 with a start date of December 1, 2003.
