The big push in the UN will be Chapter 7 Sanctions, which within it allows UN sanctioned military action.

Hmmm, do I see U.S. attacking them? Nope...Iran is much more deadly, they might be able to make one 10 years from now...so the plans are already in effect to go after them...don't attack ones that have them 4 sure, go attack ones that might have them or the ones that U.S. would have the most to gain by...yah moral wars...my ass.

Military action will depend on how Kim reacts to heavy sanctions. Expect a naval blockade that will literally cut off North Korea from the rest of the world.

i think North Korea should be dealt with politically. heavy handed approach resulted in this test. and its the north Koreans who will sell this technology to the highest bidder.
What the world needs is a careful approach to the north and try to solve this issue diplomatically.

North Korea says it has carried out its first ever test of a nuclear weapon, the state news agency has reported.
It said the underground test, done in defiance of international warnings, was a success and had not resulted in any leak of radiation. A South Korean official said an explosion had been detected in the north-east of North Korea, measuring 3.5 on the Richter scale. North Korea said last week that it planned to test a nuclear weapon. South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun has called an emergency meeting of his government’s National Security Council.
A South Korean official said that there had been a grave change in the security situation on the peninsula.
Officials in South Korea have been quoted as saying that an explosion was detected in north Hamgyong province in North Korea. South Korea’s Yonhap news agency is reporting that the test took place in Gilju in Hamgyong province. Prior to the test, there had been speculation that any such trial would take place either in Gilju or Hagap in the centre of the country. The entire region has been on high alert since North Korea said last week it would conduct a nuclear test. Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has just arrived in Seoul for a meeting with Mr Roh, following talks on the crisis with his Chinese counterparts in Beijing. At the Beijing summit, Japanese and Chinese leaders had earlier said that such a test would be considered “unacceptable”.

Oh yawn. Anybody suprised?
This is a nation that cannot feed itself, and for years has either starved or received handouts from other countries. The answer is simple, and the example is Libya.
South Korea and Japan will move towards Nuclear programs of their own, and maybe the world will figure out that proliferation is bad for everyone, as the world slips toward a day of chaos and misunderstanding that takes us to the brink.

^^ I doubt that Japan or South Korea will move towards Nuclear Programs
But most likely they will acquire US build Submarines that can fire nuclear missiles or even get USA to permanently station Nuclear Submarines in their Naval Yards and if there is a Nuclear War, USA can respond.

Naw, NK will use it when they need to...they won't be the aggressors, I mean if they have them, little chance of an invasion, cuz no1 wants a nuclear war going on.

NKOR showed some nuke balls finally. Now its Iran’s turn to cash in within couple of weeks. The devil will have to deal with both of them on equality basis. Yippy!!!
The only people will be crying are those who are the only nation which used Nukes. Everyone else is testing and keeping it for their defence and energy sectors. kameeni fitrat!

bear in mind that we've not seen the FULL might of the usa army yet. im questioning whether nk have enough conventional strength, forsight and real time intelligence to be able to get these missiles off the ground should the us give the attack command to its troops.
nk have always maintained sanctions are an act of war!
this is interesting,
we might even get a chance to judge shaheen missiles should nk strike first

i think japan has also confirmed that north korea have carried out the tests....
perhaps mulsim will get some relief now as uncle sam has a slight shift of focus....
