I’m still utterly in love with the turbo in my car. It may be a biatch having to wait a minute when turning the car on before driving off, and before turning the car off (need to let the turbo spin up to speed and spin down with adequate oil being pumped to it by the engine) , but it’s sooo worth it. 197 hp and a 220 pounds of torque at low rpms from just a 2400cc engine makes it amazing.
Ok, so there’s a spot of lag, but when you ease your foot down, and the turbo makes the beast lunge ahead, there’s nothing quite like it.
I’m thinking that once you do a turbo, you can’t go back to normal engines…
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
there is no replacement for boost, the raw brute force of the turbocharged engine straining the axles to twist off... the incredible shove into the seat when the power comes on,
The effect is outta this world if you are driving a rotary engine turbo like the RX7, in otto engines I found the mitsubishi 4g63 turbo (galant VR4 RS) engine great, when installed in a smaller car - you'll have wheelspin till 75 mph..
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
the sound of an engine comprises half the enjoyment of driving a performance vehicle...and there's nothing like the roar of a 5+ liter N/A engine....the whine of a turbo and the squeal of a supercharger just don't do it for me.
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
0-60 in 7 sec is all I need. After that I want comfort, off road ability, space and safety. Beyond that I want something reliable and that will not depreciate rapidly. Any suggestions?
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
None of those rice rocket gimmicks (asians compensating for their short-you-know-what syndrome)......try a Detroit big block V-8 with at least 396 cubic inches, headers, intakes, exhaust churning out at least 400 horses along with the iconic and unrival Vrrroom Vrrroom sound.....
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
2.0 liter turbo charged boxer engine is all i need. Soon we will be paying $3 a Gallon at the pumps. I think you guys should stop talking about supercharged 500 to 700 hp engines and get real.
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
Pound for pound, dollar for dollar…can’t beat the latest crop of Sportbikes!
$10, 000 is all you need to out-drag most 4 wheelers. Heck, my stone stock Suzuki SV650 could pull low 13’s in the quarter and still give 35mpg on average. Not bad for a commuter bike…
Forced induction engines are more readily tunable but don’t sound as good as a regular combustion engine at say, 10, 000 rpm:
Re: Normally aspirated engines, turbocharging or supercharging - which turns YOU on?
True, but one very importantuse of a powerful engine is to carry around your 6 airbags, roll cage, whiplash preventing seats and crumple zones. None of which are found on a sportbike.
