My SIL lives in Islamabad, and I asked her to make me some lawn suits for the summer. Her and her husband are very fashion-forward, and she told me that this summer along with long shirts, short shirts are back with patiala shalwaars again! Say it aint so!!! I was loving the long flowy shirts!!!
Ughhh....I saw this hideous combo resurface in some of the lawn pictorials that are all over Facebook these days, I think the Gul Ahmad catalog had some, but according to my sources in KHI & LHR, it's not going to gain any steam, so nothing to worry about for now....
Even if short shirts & patiala shalwars do rear their ugly heads on the fashion scene, I for one will NOT dare to put these on my petite, pear shape body!!! I have always dressed according to whatever flatters my body type and that has always been A-Line silhouettes!!!
Im so glad to hear that! I asked her to make me long shirts because EVEN if the short shirts come back, Im in Canada/US (live in US, but family is all in Canada, so Im back and forth), they are not going to make a big appearance here until next year. Im so happy to hear your sources are saying they are not going to gain steam!
I carry my weight in my stomach, so wearing a short tight kameez does not flatter me. I look much better in long flowy kameezes, and I want those to stay in fashion forever!!
...YAY! I personally hate the long shirts. I love long frocks and A-line shirts but I cannot stand long kameezes so if that is true, I LOVE that. I especially love the trend of the white patyala shalwars with white dupattas a short kameez.
Honestly I just want the normal sized shalwaar kameez back! I'm so sick of these superrrrr long shirts, or the jini pants with short shirts. Flowy frocks with churidaar are still cute too. But I'm just so fed up with the style nowadays, it looks nothing like pakistan clothes anymore, more like an attempt on greece gowns.
Why cant we have normal length shirts with patialas? They look hot.
I personally love the current trend. But I think the amount of fabric being used for one pair of shalwar kameez is ridiculous. Maybe shorter shirts will mean clothes wont be as expensive anymore!
I've bought a few shalwar kameezes from an Aunty in Toronto who goes to Pakistan to bring her stock. She said that although the kameezes are getting a little bit shorter in Pakistan, the trend in North America is always behind so the "current trend" here is still the long kameez.
Personally, I try to stick to a middle of the road design- kameez to the knee or just below and a plain shalwar...makes my life easier!
never liked short kameez nd patiala shalwars, when long shirts were not in fashion i used to wear regular shalwar nd medium length kameez, dont really care much for what's IN , as long as it looks good nd i feel comfortable. that being said, i adooree long kameezes or frocks/gown with churidar pajamas omg will never stop wearing them eveeer!
i like long shirts with churidar pajamas and khusas, it suits me too as i am slim and yes i love short shirts too but not with pateala. short shirts and long froks suit more to slim girls. I am happy to hear that is back.
and today i was thinking i miss short shirts but i think people will take a while before they switch to short.people seem to be enjoying the long flowy trend
I have seen a few shalwar kameezes in Nisha Lawn's catalog. the shalwars have lots of ghair but they are not stitched in that loopy patiala style.and the shirts arent too short. they are knee length. like 38 to 40 inches i guess. looked cute since the girl was tall and very slim.
but other than those few prints the rest of the collection have super long shirts. havent seen a lot of frocks though.
I loved the short shirt trend back in the day and then I moved to Canada 6 or 7 years ago and wasn't following trends in pakistan at all. I grew used to wearing whatever I liked - shorter shirts. But I have been to visit Lahore 2 or 3 times lately and loved the long frocks and kameez trend that was going on. It really grew on me as I hated it initially and resisted! So I had a few kaam walai clothes made (I got married). And now it looks like the trend is changing again! :-(
The other thing is I feel if you dress however you like in Pakistan, ppl think you're frumpy and not up to date and look at you funny! lol I know my sisters in law who live in Lahore were all funny about how I dressed. But I'd made all my new clothes as I liked them then, fitted and shorter / knee length (esp clothes to wear at home as I wanted to be comfortable). But ppl are all like, why are you wearing old clothes (they were new!) and stick up their noses at you! Or tell you, you need some fashion sense and an updated wardrobe. There's no way to win! If you keep up with fashion, it changes on you all the time!! Even the darzis and boutique / shop wallas / designer all look at you funny. Not that I cared, but then eventually gets to you! Ha ha Good thing I only ever stay no more than three weeks at a time.
usually it takes a longer time for fashion in pakistan to start showing up overseas so even if the fashion changes it will up to a year before we see it
