The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) has said in a well known Hadith that,
“The best of people are those living in my generation, and then those who will follow them, and then those who will follow the latter…”

Brother thounsands of peoples lived during the genetation of the Prophet, some were Kafir, some were muslims, so do you want us to believe people like Abou Lahab, and other Kaffirs are superficial then others.
Insaaniyat, if you read the subject line, i'm sure you'll realize the hadith is regarding the Prophet sallallaho alaihe wa sallam and the Sahabas...his companions.
Sorry but sister how am i supposed to know that the Hadith is just referring to the companions, it doesnt mention about the companions anywhere, nor distinguish who are the companions or who are not, I can give you any hadith like that and say it referring to so and so person.

Insaniyaat, all it takes is some common sense and brains to understand this hadith.
WHO WOULD PROPHET CALL BEST GENERATION?
You have disbelievers, now would prophet include the disbelievers with the best generation? No! You have to be a “BELIEVER” to be called BEST by the prophet. Who were the believers of that time? Sahaaba, and people after Sahaaba and people after them.
I understand you being a shia, would LOOK for excuses to disagree with the facts…
