Non-Western Suggestions for High School Texts

As we rework the 10th grade curriculum, we’re trying to consider texts that will appeal to students as well as teach them key skills. This course can have SOME British literature and no American literature. We’d also like to branch out from American and British literature. So do you have any suggestions of great books that are not written by American or British authors, but would be appropriate for high school or even early college?

The focus is on close-reading and analysis in 10th grade literature, so the texts should have sufficient depth, but still be accessible for young minds.

Contemporary or "classic"?

I remember reading "The GOod Earth" and "Nectar in a Sieve" and "Shabanu". The last one might be particularly interesting, if you haven't heard of it, ti's about a Pakistani girl living in a village.
