Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

I was thinking of buying a new cookware set…im confused between non-stick and stainless steel…the doubt that i have about stainless steel set is that it will get stained and will be difficult to clean up…though i havent used it before so im not able to make the decision…what are your recommendations?
p.s. i wont be going for an expensive set…will try for something in $50 range.

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

buy non stick . We use non stick utensils at home and they are just fine.

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

stain less steel ........

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

if its mainly for desi food cooking then I'd go stainless steel all the way- I agree with you about it getting stained with colour but salan's etc taste so much better if cooked in stainless steel (even better in clay pots!)! I tend to find they don't quite taste right if cooked in non stick (but that could just be me!)

If primarily english/european food then non stick

Not sure if that is much help to you.

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

non stick is hassle free , even with desi cooking !!

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

Buy Stainless Steel only if you are willing to buy high end pots and pans, else go for non stick.

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

get a good nonstick, not a teflon one but something anodized like calphalon.
I personally like cast iron but they require a little effort etc

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

I bought few Stainless steel pots (all in different sizes) from a good desi shop and let me tell you they were expensive if you are buying the high end.. I paid at least $50 for each pot. But it's worth it and it's an investment.. will last you 20, 30 years.. Also I agree with the person above that stainless steel gives you the flavor that nonstick can't do, especially when you are doing the dawats and making Pakistani food.

Re: Non-Stick or Stainless Steel?

I prefer Non-Stick (easy to wash-up too)
