I recently bought a Phillipe Richard non stick cookware set (the 11 pc one) for a family friend. I have never heard of this brand before but this one looked better and was heavier than the cuisinart one the store had. Now i know cusinart is a good brand but going by weight,PR looked better. Is that a good way to judge non stick cookware? since this is a present for someone, i wnat to give whats best within a reasonable price range. Just for info, both brands were the same price but i picked Phillip Richard because it looked better than Cuisinart.
Have any of you heard of this brand? Any experiences with it?
Circulon is considered the gold standard of the cook ware...which is usally way wayyy expensive, good news is that the kirkland brand which is Basically Costco brand's cookware set has been given highest ratings by best coinsumers report:)
No ira, that's not a good way of judging a cookware. There are lots of cheap heavy cookware in the market these days. Anyways, you don't have to give a big set, they aren't very useful. If you're on a budget I highly recommend you to get a 2 or 3pc set from a really good brand....I got one on my wedding and I just LOVE it! Check out Circulon, Cooking with Calphalon, and T-Fal...T-Fal would be the cheapest in price I suppose. Best quality of cookware is made from 'hard-anordized aluminum'. You can also find store coupons online, just search on google. g'luck!
Calphalon is really lovely but hey, you really dont need the non-stick cookware for most things you cook...so one or two pieces should be more than fine for most kitchens I think and regular stainless for the rest. Beware of the inexpensive brands of non-stick cookware, the coating eventually comes off and cooks into food, even more so when you use metal utensils on it. It happens even with the most expensive brands when you use metals on it. I really prefer using regular (stainless steel) and Pam, the non-stick spray coating, that stuff really works and they have all different kinds now - extra virgin olive oil, butter, olive oil with garlic, etc etc so why take a chance on ingesting heavy metals...ya know?
^ u don't???? I have been cooking every single thing... even making doodh patti chai and rotis, in my non-stick cookware :).... quick and easy to clean. I use wood/plastic spatula anyway. But hopefully i would be replacing them with the stainless steel one pretty soon, cuz yeah why take risk... especially when it's a matter of health.
Calphalon is good but expensive, especially their new line of Calphalon One Cookware.
I like Anolon as well, quite close to Calphalon and Circulon quality wise.
T-fal, i heard the material is not so good for your health. Never heard of the one you mentioned.
PS: If you are not sure, then Why not give them some nice kitchen store gift card????
I can't live without my non-stick cookware either...I mostly only use non-stick because I don't have to use too much oil and they are so easy to clean. The only time I use my stainless steel cookware is when I'm making tea or boiling veggies. :)
cheap non stick cookware can be a major issue, read up on it, once we did ..all the cookware was summarily tossed and calphalon bought.
I shudder when i go to ppls house where they have the non stick cookware with half of the non stick surface gone at he bottom due to using metal spoons and spatulas.
Mama i personally only have a frying pan that i use to cook mostly veggies or chicken so the surface doesnt get scratched. I was getting tired of scrubbing my chai wali pateeli so i recently bought a calphalon sauce pan for that and i must say cleaning it is such a breeze after making chai, esp in winter when i have to make chai atleast a couple times a day.
The set is for someone in Pakistan and i only want to give the best in a decent price range. Unfortunately this brand doesnt have a lot of ratings or reviews online. I think i will just ask the store staff and see if they know something. It looks pretty nice though and i woul dbuy it for myself in a heart beat if i needed it.
Just curious CA, dont the pans get scratched if you cook haddi wala gosht in it?
No, they don't get scratched if you cook haddi wala gosht. I usually cook stubborn lamb meat or beef in my pressure cooker though, saves a lot of time you know. :) Well just make sure to avoid metal utensils at all cost. If the pan gets scratched in any way then I think it won't be safe to use anymore. Non-stick cookware is pretty safe if you follow simple instructions that are normally given when you buy it.
Ira janu.. why do you need to buy pateelis for someone in Pakistan?!?! trust me Pakistan has much better variety of non stick bartan than what you are going to bring from there. PPl usually take these things from here. Just pack your clothes, shoes, and sweaters.. itni jagah kahan hai tumahre paas?
