Non-Silk ties

Folks …

Does any one know about a good place to get non silk ties? I have been around malls and all i can find is 100 % silk :frowning:

Re: Non-Silk ties

I went hunting high and low for non-silk ties. Wal-mart have them. Also, I found one shop at Scarborough Town Centre that sells non-silk ties, butonly in plain colours, and even then just a limited selection of colours.

Re: Non-Silk ties

thanks MS

i know what you are talking about ... so far all the non silk ties that i came across were plain and all the nice ones are 100 % silk... thnks for sharing though !!!

Re: Non-Silk ties

The polyester ties at walmart are patterned, so they look better than plain ones. However, their quality is terrible, so don't let anyone touch it.

The plain polyester tie that I bought is such high quality that people touch it and assume it's silk.

Re: Non-Silk ties

Err...why do you exactly want non-silk ties?

Re: Non-Silk ties

I love Harry Rosen's ties for men. They look so sharp. Pure silk though.

Re: Non-Silk ties

Sunan Abu Dawud, Book 27, Hadith 4046 - Narrated by Ali ibn Abu Talib: The Prophet of Allah (SAW) took silk and held it in his right hand, and took gold and held it in his left hand and said: “both of these are prohibited to the males of my community”

There are other hadiths that clarify this further, but the end result is that 100% silk is forbidden for men, though silk blends can be allowed.

"If there is a tangible health reason for a person to wear silk, to relieve the suffering, wearing it is permissible in that case. This is based on the Hadith narrated by Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, allowed ‘Abd Ar-Rahman Ibn ‘Awf and Ibn Az-Zubayr, may Allah be pleased with them both, to wear silk because they suffered from a skin irritation. (Reported by Al-Bukhari, 10/295, and Muslim, 3/1646).

The scholars also allowed men to wear garments containing four fingers’ width of silk, because of the Hadith of `Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the wearing of silk except for an area the width of two fingers, or three or four (meaning a small amount of silk that equals two, three, or four close fingers). (Reported by Muslim, 3/1644)”

In the light of the above Fatwa, it becomes crystal clear that only small amount of silken material in man’s clothing is permissible. Needless to say that 50% is not a small amount. But, we have to keep in mind the fact that although there are some jurists who do not consider it Haram to have a small amount of silk or a small amount of silken material in men’s clothing, it is still better to avoid pure silken neckties, gloves, etc., in obedience to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who told us that men should not wear gold and silk.

Re: Non-Silk ties

`Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, who said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade the wearing of silk except for an area the width of two fingers, or three or four (meaning a small amount of silk that equals two, three, or four close fingers). (Reported by Muslim, 3/1644)” ^^width of two-four close fingers .... I am sure most if not all 100% silk ties would fall under this definition.

Re: Non-Silk ties

The Tie Rack at Square One carries them.

Re: Non-Silk ties

:yahoo:

Hi. There is this really good web site for non silk ties, adeena.co.uk

Re: Non-Silk ties

theres a buncha places here (street shops) that sell ties, 3 for $12, etc etc...

plenty of ties where the front i silk but the backing is not, and thus can be cosidered a blended garment.

second question that I always ask is whether it was those specific items gold and silk that were prohnited or what they signified.. luxury and display of wealth..

so silk is not allowed but if I get egyptian or sea island cotton shirts, cashmere suits, vucuna sweaters, alligator skin shoes sporting a platinum Grande Complication by Jean Dunand on the wrist, I am okay?

guys..really?

Re: Non-Silk ties

^ bro, if we read the hadiths, the overall message is to be modest and not to display wealth openly. so if our Prophet (pbuh) did not order us to wear "Platinum Grande Complication by Jean Dunand" or "vacuna sweaters" does not mean we should be wearing it. take the whole picture just like we take our dunya matters...

ps: dont know if u waz being sarcastic but my reply is not sarcasm!!!

ps2: forget it

Re: Non-Silk ties

shoudnt this be in the fashion forum???

Re: Non-Silk ties

theres no such thing mentioned in the Quran....gold or silk is neither prohibited nor it is haram.

"Say 'Do you see that which God has provided for you, you make some of it Unlawful (Haram) and some of it Lawful (Halal)?. Say 'Did God allow you to do this? Or do you tell lies about God?" (10/59)

"Say 'who has made Unlawful (Haram) the luxuries that God has provided his servants and the good things?..." (7/32)

When GOD says in His book: 'Obey GOD and obey the Messenger', the Muslims take GOD to be represented by the Quran and the Messenger to be represented by Bukhari and the Hadiths.
why????

"When you read the Quran, we place between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter an invisible barrier. We place shields around their minds, to prevent them from understanding it, and deafness in their ears. And when you preach your Lord, using the *Quran alone, they run away in aversion." *(17:45-46)

Allah has not taken responsibility for any other text except for the Holy Quran...no other text is authorized by Allah himself.

Say: "Shall I seek for judge other than God? - when He it is Who hath sent unto you the Book, EXPLAINED IN DETAIL." (Quran : 6.114)

And pursue not that of which thou hast no knowledge; for every act of hearing, or of seeing or of REASONING will be enquired into (Quran : 17.36)

Hadeeth IS mentioned in the Quran. Hadeeth of Allah, not anyone else.

dont make things complicated...dont invent things and label them as islamic...
modesty does not=shunning silk or gold altogether.

I was not being sarcastic but trying to illustrate a point.

because if the guidance it about display of luxurious stuff then well sorry but a silk tie is not a luxury anymore. silk was a luxury at one time and some flowing silk robe may still be a luxury but a silk tie..its really same price as a polyster one which are hard to find and usually dont look good

yep..just bought RL silk ties 2/$20 at Macy's...silk ties are pretty cheap..and I agree..polyester ones look really bad.

Re: Non-Silk ties

A polyester tie may be seen as “cheap” by those who are very in to styling their image. Do you agree?

Well, as a man made material polyester certainly has come a long way. And there isn’t any place where you will not find polyester now, even in expensive department stores. So what exactly is a polyester tie and what can it do for you?

**Characteristics of Polyester
**
The creation of polyester is a highly complicate chemical process that starts with the same crude oil that fuels our cars. Polymer fibers are melted and chemically bonded, and then formed into long strands which are spun into thread and yarn. These are then Woven or Knitted into fabric.

Many people dislike some of the properties of pure polyester, thus the fiber is sometimes blended with cotton or wool to combine the properties of the two fibers. Whatever your opinion of polyester is, the process of its creation truly is a modern technological marvel.

**
Pros and Cons of Polyester Tie**

Polyester necktie has many positive qualities, which is probably the reason why they are still produced in massive quantities. Polyester is wrinkle resistant, which means your tie won’t look rumpled and worn halfway through the day.

The material is also stain resistant, which makes it a safe choice for wild holiday work parties and for dinners out. In the chance that it does get spilled on, polyester is far easier to clean than its natural cousin silk.

The selling point for many folks: a polyester necktie is about half the price (or less) than a Silk Tie.

But of course, polyester neckties have their downside as well. Polyester does not breathe, which matters less in a tie than in a garment, but you still may get that yucky, clammy feeling around your neck.

Even though it is a stain resistant fabric, polyester can stain, and once it does it’s nearly impossible to get out. The same principal goes for smells, if you have a sweaty neck, your tie will smell like sweat, forever.

You also should never apply direct heat (like an iron) to polyester. If you do the fabric will melt, and if you’re lucky all you’ll have is a glob in the middle of your tie. If you get this hot goo on you, the burns can be very severe.

Will you Buy a Polyester Tie?

You can find polyester neckties being made all over the world. Some of the most funky polyester novelty ties are made in the US. China is probably the largest producer of these ties, creating and exporting hundreds of thousands per year.

There are no real artisan polyester necktie producers, most handmade ties are made out of silk. Still, even some of the most well known designers, such as Kenneth Cole, have tie lines made out of polyester.

The polyester necktie can really be seen as a substitute anywhere you would wear a Satin Tie, such as to work or out to dinner.

The advantage to wearing polyester when eating out instead of silk is that if you spill food or drink on the tie it is much less of a tragedy than if the tie were silk. The cost for replacement is less, and cleaning is easier.

So the next time you have a work dinner or cocktail party, consider wearing a polyester tie instead. No one will notice it’s not silk, not even me!

Lots of online stores where you can find beautiful non-silk ties. Try ebay, ties4guys etc…

Where there is a will, there is a way! No denying the fact that silk ties come in better designs, but a tie is nothing in front of what the Prophet (PBUH) has ordained.

Peace!
