A question for all the Lahoris here…are there a lot of non-Punjabi people there? I know its not like Karachi or anything, but are they any people there whose parents/grandparents migrated from Delhi/UP/Bihar/Hyderabad Deccan? Just curious, because I had read somewhere that wealthier people from Delhi/UP etc preferred to settle in Lahore after Partition, while more middle class people went to Sindh.
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
yea. there are a lot of people in Lahore who migrated from Delhi, UP, etc. Some people who owned bigger houses in India, got bigger houses in Lahore too - ofcourse they were only few. Most of them didn't get anything.
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
There is a big population of pathans as well, mostly near the fortress.
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
I know a lot of Nawabs also settled in Lahore...They r more prominant in areas like Model Town ..(to my best knowledge)..btw I donot remember where most Nawabs r from as some of them even had Khan as their last name.
We ourselves r Pathans..though not the pushto speaking ones but migrated from Khanpur ,Punjab,India:)...
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
but beleive that...there is no any type of discrimination about that...we all are pakistanis...we all are muslims...and thats all....i am personal witness to that...being living in lahore...i have never seen any discrimination on the pieces of lands...all pieces of lands belong to Allah Almighty.....
the provinces and cities are never ever be our identiy.....everyone loves his own city .......but at the whole...we are muslims...and pakistanis first...rest all comes after......
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?

Wat about you?
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?

ok ..you are from hoshiarpur...Ashfaq ahmed was also from there....he was also khan ....
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
For 28 years our neighbours were the ones migrated from Patna, their father died last year aged 94 & only one of the brothers were born in India when they migrated, rest of them born in PK. They are seven brothers, three of them got married in India, & two in Lahore.
Anyway, most important thing that I'd like to mention here is, several years ago I asked our neighbour, why didn't he move to Karachi as well like rest of his family. His reply was, I migrated to Pakistan - not Karachi. I can live anywhere, but I prefer Lahore.
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
^ so thats his choice . I dont get your point?
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
I've heard its not as big of a deal in Lahore as it is in Karachi or Hyderabad...everyone is just Lahori :)

Is it really a big deal over here? When I was living in Islamabad/Rawalpindi people from India were still being called "hindustani' on face and "matarwa" on back!
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
I dunno...I'm really only familiar with the situation in Karachi. Even now, there's definitely a lot of tension there...
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
People from the up country always consider Karachi and its people as evil! Bad and good people are everywhere! But they always present Karachi as centre of all evils so much so even when they mention Karachi's weather, they call it in a manner as if the weather of Karachi is not due to nature but due to its habitants!
Re: Non-Punjabis in Lahore?
Most of my family is from Karachi :)
I love the city and all, but you have to admit...it has had some serious issues with ethnic/sectarian violence. I mean, there was a whole decade (mid 80's-mid 90's) when the city practically became a warzone over these differences.
I guess I'm just curious about how 'Urdu speakers' fared outside of Sindh.

Yea that was due to MQM's foolish and dirty poilicies! But that does not mean all Karachi people are evil and all Lahore people are good!
And racial discrimination is not just in Karachi. Its all over Pakistan.
