Also, something else worth stating as Mirpuris seem to have a negative image amongst non Mirpuris. People from this area also are also very generous and kind hearted.
There are a lot of good Mirpuris, a lot of them successfully established in the UK. Half of all Pakistanis in the UK are from just the Mirpur area (perhaps 300,000-400,000) but I think we had a bad image because some people perceive us as being backwards. I think a few uneducated idiots give the rest of us a bad name. You mention Mirpur and some people get images of Waziristan.
Not as bad as Wazirstan - can assure people of that and certainly not as backward as some places and people in Punjab.
The other fact worth clearing is that people from Potowar area such as Gujar Khan, Dina etc (which comes under district Rawalpindi), Kotli in Azad Kasmir etc speak same language and we share similar culture are also classified as Mirpuris. Wheras these people are not Mirpuris - only common thing we have is that people speak similar language and many have relatives in these areas.
True....many of the well off Mirpuris don't even live in Mirpur a lot of them live in Islamabad. Its a great place...its very beautiful....the lake....the green fields...the mountains. Its a very scenic area.
Just need to go into Islamabad and see what Mirpuris have done to the development of this city - the amount of property they own is unbelievable. Percentage wise higher than any other community of Pakistan.
I don't generally go to either unless a relative wants me to chauffeur her around, in which I find it easier to just get the A40 as my relatives live in that direction.
