what Islamic rules dictate that child must have an Islamic name rathe than a non Islamic name
for example if I wanted to name a child “daisy” which is not to my knowledge a name from any religion or if I wanted to name a child Mary which is a form of Mariam
But the object of the name is to have its effect show upon the child...And with the abundance of beautifully sounding names in Islam, why opt for non-Muslim ones?
Ofcourse, there are names of Prophets (Peace be upon them) and other noble people that are mentioned in the Qu'raan. For many of these people, the names also appear in other divine revelations, and depending upon which language you read them in, it may be slightly different (e.g. Yousaf = Joseph etc). That doesn't make it Islamic or non-Islamic, per se. Its a name, and its a name of a messenger of Allah, so its a revered name.
Then there are names of the noble companions and family members of our Prophet (Peace be upon him), and many Muslims name their children after them. Since Islam started in Arabia, so most of these names are in Arabic language with good meanings, and its great that people still use them.
The basic purpose of naming your child is to give them a name with good meaning, and avoid any names that reflect the time of jahaliyaa or polytheist ideals (e.g. Abdul Kaaba etc). Other than that, a name can be from any language.
Bui jin is a chinaman who happen to be muslim. That is his name. Bui was the protector of Confucious. Having a name doesn't have a reflection on the piety of the person. You could be Ram Siddiqui, doesn't mean you are not as muslim. Such anachronistic gobbledegook!!
If I was awake and reading what you have to say I would say something worth saying...as it happens Im half asleep...therefore Sir, with respect I say to you that you are confusing me with long words.
I was looking for Hadiths an stuff...stick to beat someone with.
ps having reread what you have to say, I agree with you and that has always been my view....
however not all find it hunkydory and tickety boo!
its not fard just like keeping a beard or preferring a lot of the things the Holy Prophet (PBUH) did, is not fard...you call it Sunnah?
as for Quranic verification, isn't there an ayat on 'not adopting kafir ways' and 'dressing, behaving, etc. so that one is recognised as Muslim'...basically an element of creating distinctions btw the kafir and yrself.....i guess this is a strong enough reason no?
