Haven't come across this model as yet here. Are you thinking of gifting it to someone?
Looks good. :)
naah i wouldnt go for it...never used it and never plan to do so. all these new combo phones are stupid according to me. might as well buy a pda with celular capabilities.
this model of nokia was launched mainly to cater for the ppl who r too much into music and text but unfortunately didn't get any considerable respect.
Thanks for the feedback, all of you.
Actually my father is/was contemplating buying this phone (I think now he already did). This is a GSM phone, and he plans to use it for international roaming.
Now, as anyone knows, international roaming is typically very expensive when you use your phone for talking, but can be extremely cheap and useful when you use your phone as an SMS device. Hence the full QWERTY keyboard comes in real handy.
The device looks a bit unusual, but the full size keyboard and international GSM makes it a wonderful bet for those who travel out of Pakistan and want to keep in touch.
Just to give an idea, if I use MObilink's website and send internet chat message to this phone, it costs me nothing. My father gets the message immediately and when he replies it only costs him Rs 1.50 per SMS message. Which is darn cheap compared to per minute charges for using the phone as a talk device.
Add to it, that apparently the phone is quite reasonably priced. I remember, three years ago, when I was in Pakistan, I had bought for myself Nokia 232 by paying Rs 12,000, and that phone was just a basic cellphone with a flip design. This phone, with all its multi-media capabailities and full keyboard, costs Rs 8,500 (atleast that is what I have been told). Good deal, haan? :)
Just FYI...
The Nokia 8890 is a DualBand (900 MHz and 1900 MHz) GSM phone that operates in the North America and in over 120 countries on five continents around the world.
Nokia 6310i is better than 8890. Check Nokia site for the details.
Najim Pilot was right here’s what I found onNokia’s website
Q: Which Nokia phone will work in the U.S. and overseas?
A: The Nokia 8890 is a DualBand (900 MHz and 1900 MHz) GSM phone that operates in the U.S. and in over 120 countries on five continents around the world.
Q: Will my current Nokia phone work on networks outside the U.S.?
A: Due to differences in technology and operating frequencies, most Nokia phones available in the United States are not compatible with the networks provided overseas. The only U.S. model phone capable of operating overseas is the 8890. Before you travel, please contact your service provider for information on international roaming. Your service provider may have roaming agreements with countries that have compatible networks.
hmmm I need a new mobile phone, prefer a nokia, any idea which one is the best ?? Any suggestions.
Check your local newspaper ads. Atleast here in US, a phone is typically very cheap if you buy it with a service plan (they may even give the phone for free) frm the mobile-phone company.
One way to plan it is to check the available features in a very high-end phone. Then, based on your personal situation and life-style, figure out which of these features are of no use for you. E.g. you might have no plans to use your phone for online gaming, or ring-tones, or to store MP3 music. These are all bells and whistles which you can do without. For most people, typically its the battery life which is important, signal strength, ability to send 2-way SMS and other such features.
The top of the line phones pretty much gives you all the features currently available so u can pick and choose.
From there, move downwards and select a phone which fits your bill.
Generally, the most important decision is to go for a flip-style phone or an open face phone. There are pros and cons in both. Flip design is generally more compact, has more safety for the keyboard. Open design is good, if u use the car adapters a lot. Plus flip design might have durability issues at the hinge which connects the two parts of the phone. Also, a flip design generally means one more physical step (i.e. to open the flip cover) before answering the darn call, and it can be tricky with one-handed operations, e.g. if u r driving.
Thank you Faisal, you have excellent knowledge regarding these things. :k:
