STOCKHOLM, Sweden – The Nobel Foundation said Wednesday it will begin announcing the 2004 Nobel Prize winners on Oct. 4.

The winner of the physiology or medicine prize will be named that day. The physics winner will be announced Oct. 5, the chemistry winner Oct. 6 and the economics prize winner Oct. 11.

Those announcements will take place in Stockholm. In keeping with tradition, the Swedish Academy will announce the date of the literature prize later.

In Oslo, Norway, the winner of the peace prize will be announced Oct. 8.

This year’s prizes are worth $1.3 million each.

The prizes were first awarded in 1901 and are named for their creator, Alfred Nobel, a Swedish industrialist and the inventor of dynamite. The prizes always are presented Dec. 10, the anniversary of Nobel’s death.

Atal, Pervez for Nobel Peace Prize

I prefer Nobel for Parvez.
He has done everything whatever India and USA needed from a Pak General, and has done in such a decent way that the people of Pakistan could not question his smartness.

Atal, Pervez in race for Nobel Peace Prize

Lahore, October 6

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and former Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee are two of the many frontrunners for this year’s Nobel Peace Prize to be announced on Thursday.
According to The Nation, the final list of hopefuls totals 194 candidates, including Musharraf and Vajpayee.
The list of candidates also includes 50 organisations, including European Union.
Among the other 142 individuals in the running for the prestigious accolade are US President George W Bush, French President Jacques Chirac, British Prime Minister Tony Blair, the Pope and former Czech president Vaclav Havel.
If Musharraf wins, it will be the very first instance of a serving army general becomes recipient of such a prestigious award.
On record, there has only been one case where a retired general winning the Nobel.

front-runners?

If thats the case, then world is a poor place, right now.

If Musharraf can give me a Viable definition of “Enlightened Moderation” I would give him the noble prize myself.

I think Edhi chacha is much more deserving than all these "front runners" combined.

are they that desperate to give away the nobel prize this year? can't they just skip it few years and acknowledge that world is in bad condition...?

In his speech of 2002 January, he reprimanded his countrymen, 'Pakistan ne Jihad ka thheka nahin lya hei.....'

For these words he desrve Nobel.

I think vajpayee and musharraf deserve this, i think there are only 2 fueding nations in the world which are nuclear powers, and the work these 2 gentlemen have done to calm both sides down has been of significance.

:hehe:

Right on, I would love to hear it too. It certainly is one of his favorite phrases.

I am kinda leaning towards Chann ji's suggestion. No one is really working for peace... sabb topi drama chal raha hai.

Or to put it conversely, this is an ideal time to bag the Nobel prize for peace... practically no competition.

what they did was marginally more than the same old hot air blowing.

which ever 2 leaders (indian and pakistani) are in power when the conflicts are actually resolved, should and will definitely get the Nobel peace prize.

musharraf and vajpayee do not deserve it at this point.

finally, they are announcing the nobel prize winners for this year…

Nobel Peace winner to be named
Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi said the trial was a farce
Speculation has been growing over who will win the Nobel Peace Prize when it is announced on Friday at 0900 GMT.

But, as usual, the fiercely independent committee that makes the award has given nothing away.

The list of nominations is secret, but there is speculation it includes the UN’s atomic inspection agency, the IAEA, and its head Mohamed ElBaradei.

George Bush and Tony Blair are known to have been nominated, for going to war against Saddam Hussein.

Right-wing Norwegian politician Jan Simonsen put them forward, saying they laid the foundations for a democratic Iraq.

Unknown winner?

It is thought the former UN weapons inspector Hans Blix, who argued for more inspections before the war on Iraq began, may also be in the running.

Nobel-watchers say the committee might go for someone relatively unknown.

This year a record 194 nominations were received by the 1 February deadline.

Some observers point to a plan sketched out in 2001, the 100th anniversary of the prize, to widen its scope beyond traditional notions of peace work to include the environment, culture or the media.

Environmentalists from Russia and Kenya, Aids campaigners and the Chinese surgeon who raised the alert over Sars have been mentioned as outside bets.

Muslim winner

Last year the Iranian lawyer Shirin Ebadi, 56, became the first Muslim woman to be afforded the honour.

She won the $1.4m (£800,000) prize for her work for the rights of women and children in Iran.

On Thursday, the Austrian novelist and playwright Elfriede Jelinek was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature.

The Nobel committee cited her “musical flow of voices and counter-voices in novels and plays that with extraordinary linguistic zeal reveal the absurdity of society’s clichés and their subjugating power”.

On Monday the last Nobel prize, for economics, will be announced.

Look who is talking! Agents of Arra-bobo and PiTAAs who sold their soul to M*Toos.

Pakistan is facing a huge danger from these namak-har*m M*Toos who are hell bent on destroying mosques and other places of worship. Instead of cleaning up our home, some guppies are bringing in more Middle Eastern filth. Two-bit Mullahs are now the leaders of the nation. We just paid the price for being followers of Mullahtic shenanigans. Ask the people of Sialkot and Multan.

Down with the agents of religious-hate and Mullah-filth.

Re: Re: Atal, Pervez for Nobel Peace Prize

Hey it’s what’s in these days! Don’t forget, he sold it at an “enlightened moderate” price. :hehe:

Middle Eastern Mullahs are the true winners of Nobel Prize

As we all know Alfred Nobel is the man who invented dynamite and nitroglycerin. He is the man who invented new ways to blow things. That makes OBL and other M*Toos as the true inheritors of Nobel.

No one is safe from the hate of these Mullahs. From France to Red Sea, and from Sialkot to Multan, innocent namazis are being blown up by these 2-bit terrorists.

It is only fair that OBL and Al-Zaya-hiri should be awarded the Noble prize for continuing death and destruction around the world.

their contributions to the cause of nobel are many, but the contribution that the america and israelis have made to the cause of alfred nobel simply outshines obl and zawahiri, so i think they should win the nobel prize..oh wait, they already have....
