Whether or not he had any achievements aside, the fact that he is Commander-in-Chief of armed forces current actively engaged in combat should have disqualified him from being considered.

How can you be furthering the cause of peace if you personally are leading soldiers at war?

I do not think the two are mutually exclusive.

Sometimes you fight wars to preserve peace.

No one is going to argue that fighting Hitler in World War II did not bring peace to Europe.
