On a non-humor aka serious note, there are two parts of this problem (if u want to call it this way) :
1) comprehension of jokes
2) telling jokes

I'll second what teggy has said. He nailed it.

But let me share a lil bit of my experience. I used to be really bad at both understanding and cracking jokes. But in past few years I've been with a lot of those people are into real-time comedy like standup comedians etc. (on a smaller scale) I think it has influenced my style as well.
So ya the point is, you are totally fine but still if you want, hangout with people who are more vocally lighthearted and u'll get a grip :)

I tried watching stand-up comedy, but it’s either dirty or makes fun of ethnicities. I don’t like either.
