No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

The Sharifs seem to be drifting back to their old habits..

Saturday, 22 Aug, 2009 | 08:02 AM PST | The bloody revolution that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif often warns of may indeed come about if the powerful continue to flaunt their influence in an increasingly unseemly manner. – No hurdle is too big to cross for anyone who can raise a veritable storm in officialdom by merely placing a call to the higher authorities. If this were not already a well-established fact, Wednesday’s incident near Murree unambiguously drove home the point.

After former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family got stuck in a vehicular mess on a narrow bridge connecting Murree and Patriata, things moved extraordinarily fast. Mr Sharif called the chief secretary of Punjab who in turn sent his local minions rushing over to clear the traffic jam. Soon the vehicles were moving as smoothly as ever. A day later, 30 or so traffic officials were suspended for failing to ensure a smooth passage for Mr Sharif’s cavalcade.

The fact that the ex-premier heads the ruling party in Punjab where the incident took place and his younger brother is the chief minister of the province appears to be the reason behind such speedy administrative action. Such is our culture that even a somewhat lesser mortal with connections in government could have achieved the same result, though perhaps with less immediacy and fewer penalties for the traffic officials. In fact, it all depends on the kind of influence one exerts in the world of politics and officialdom. Without that influence, Mr Sharif’s car would have been stuck indefinitely in the traffic mess.

Ordinary citizens appear to be resigned to the situation. They may be seething inside but their anger has perhaps not reached boiling point yet. Nevertheless, the bloody revolution that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif often warns of may indeed come about if the powerful continue to flaunt their influence in an increasingly unseemly manner.

Mr Shahbaz Sharif would be well advised to curb this trend and empower ordinary citizens so that their voice can be heard too.

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

Atleast the roads were not closed off during the VIP 'movement' as we normally see in isloo and around.

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

That's because the Sharrifs know that their brothers in arms won't attack them.

they were also not blocked cause it was NOT ALTAF Bhaiis holy sermon... Else tents would have been used to cordon off the entire street only cause of a lunatics sermon. The complete roads were closed using tents for the the recent Mukka Chowk opening ceremony by the great Altaf Bhai..

Now back on the topic... things are getting messier in Pakistan.. Actions of CTBT brothers ( Sharif brothers ) are not upto any expectations as well now. There are a lot of incidents revolving around the necks of CTBT brothers.

When had they ever drifted away from their old habits?!?!?!

Remember the recent Siberian Tiger incident? Interesting how they suddenly went into action only after it become a media outrage.

Pakistan has a lot of news channels. The best sponcer award is going to be announced soon.
No doubt Sharifs will get it for their great co-operation,
At the ceramoney you will listen this song in back ground.
Zamanay main sharifon ka aji bas hal woh dekha ..keh
Sharafat chhor di man nay

Ahh.. typical Zardari/Salman Taseer syndrome

When** Jang **and **The News have opened up thier swords on NRO / Musharraf Trial / Cheeni Chors / Steel Mill Corruption / 17th amendment etc
**
Dawn and Daily Times
are now proving loyalty to Masters as Dawn Owner Haroon brother is UNO representative at Washington and Zardari old chum

PS : Whenever US or Saudi/UK delegates / Boucher/ Halbroke/ Zardari/ PM Gilani etc visit Raiwind , Lahore , they dont take Canal Road route , they use milliitary
helicopter. At this moment a helicopter is passed over my house ( its special sound is easily heard) towards Mall Road which was gone in Raiwind direction 2 hours ago. Dawn is now playing freaky 3rd rated games !

Very typical of VIP culture… “I am too important… let other people suffer from traffic jams/load-shedding, but not me”.

Are you saying that when Sharif brothers hold a jalsaa no traffic is blocked? Is it because jalsaa is too small for a traffic jam? :konfused:

ayen bayen shayen… anything to the topic?

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

If you ever have driving license training there is also an INTERNATIONAL rule to give way to VIPs, Ambulance, Police, Fire brigade and Emergency Transports.

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

^ For VIPs? Probably only in Pakistan driving licencse training. But then there is a difference in 'give-way' and traffic-police completely blocking the roads.

yup for VIPs its same here in Germany. same in UAE and same all over. Not blocking the road but giving way though blocking the roads are applied in many countries specially all of GCC countries (I been through this myself) And they block roads more than an hour :)

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

^ In US we are required to give way to vehicles with overhead-lights ON (fire-trucks, ambulance, police). If a “VIP” vehicle is escorted by police then it is covered in that provision, but I don’t think there is any requirement to give-way to a “VIP” vehicle. Haven’t seen one such blockage in last 13 years in Texas.

Oh, and GCC’s don’t count, they are a “kingdom” to begin with :hehe:

Captain1 sahib… I dont think that CTBT brothers will block the roads for more than 2 days for their not so holy sermons. where as the peer of peers Altaf Bhaiis supporter does that… you can see the videos of the preparation for that Mukka Chowk re-opening… the entire road was blocked using tents for more than 2 days… who pays for the losses to all the traders???

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

^ I wasn't aware of roads being blocked for 2-days for jalsaa preps. To me, any blockage of roads for jalsaa, "vip trespassing" is a crime. If Altaf's mureeds block roads for 2 days that is condemnable, so is blockage of roads for VIP trespassing.

for the references…

check all the shops and pumps being blocked… :)… three cheers for all the peery mureedii.

the other thing I dont get is the use of Snorkel Trucks for the Gull pashees and cake cuttings… isnt that Snorket to be used by Fire Brigade only…

coutry taraqi kahan se karay aik chapraasi bhee daftar se bahir jaaye to sallay char log saath hotay haiN.

I met ScottishFirst Minister on many occaisons and he only comes with his driver and one Security gaurd

He also doesn't have to worry about jihad jacketwalas

I seriously thought that Two times ex Prime minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif was going to be a changed man and will actually contribute postively.

However, I must say that the dude is still lost and involved in the same politics of confrontation and venegence.

Kudos to Ex president of Pakistan Pervaiz Musharraf for giving power to media. One of his few great acts.

Re: No traffic jams please we are Sharifs!

^^ one of his worst act as media is always trying to break Pakistan by telling their so said "truth" where as None of western country allow this even they say they are liberal

I read your reply like 5 times. I am sorry but I have no idea what you are saying or trying to say.

Maybe your English is too good for me.

Can you please say it in Urdu? Thank you. :)
