Re: "No threat to Pakistan from Taliban ideology": Imran
Thats what I am saying even if Pakistan defeats the TTP (supposedly and that might happen when Pakistan lets its strategic depth go away) it wont make an effect to the SSP/LJ etc. At the moment they would be helping the TTP to fight their war in KP, but otherwise they dont need TTP's support to survive . I dont see any operation happening in Punjab.
What can you say when the government has banned some organizations and they are holding their jalsas all over the country. The intelligence can kill some people as terrorists who might have separatist views but not necessarily killed some one. But Malik Ishaq who is known to have been a party to numerous killings and he keeps on getting released.

Its synergistic, their partnership with TTP. If we defeat the TTP (suppose) then we would be back to the 90s when we adopted a law-enforcement approach towards these groups, and towards the late 90s and early 2000s actually did manage to significantly decrease their activities.
The broader point though is that when TTP blows up a shia juloos in Karachi, or when LJ attacks Ahmdies in Lahore, and someone instead of condemning the mentality of sectarian killing and religious fundamentalism, starts talking about the grand old American occuptation in Afghanistan, not only does it give these groups ideological cover and glorification as resistance heroes, it hides the fact that this particular mentality of trying to impose your religion through violence predates 2002, and is not something that should be defended or minimised.
Re: "No threat to Pakistan from Taliban ideology": Imran
there is a difference in sectarianism and the phenomena of taleban, today some one has attacked a mosque in Belgium and as a result a shia has been killed there.
Re: “No threat to Pakistan from Taliban ideology”: Imran
There is a difference, but there is an overlap. Like I said, LJ has a long history with Taliban, going back to the 90s and Taliban rule. Taliban itself had sect-based propaganda, and committed its worst violence against shias.
I guess thats the ‘lets live with/patronise the good taliban’ equivalent of LJ. Presumably Ishaq sahab isnt planning on attacking anything Pakistan actually wants to protect.
Re: "No threat to Pakistan from Taliban ideology": Imran
One thing that I have observed during the past 10 years of this war is that overall intolerance has increased many times, even the previously peaceful groups are also getting really intolerant.
Re: “No threat to Pakistan from Taliban ideology”: Imran
Dear Amal,
We fully realize that the recent tragic incident coupled with some regrettable incidents from the recent past is forcing many to question our efforts in Afghanistan. The shameful acts of a few do not represent our values, and certainly do not do justice to the hard work done by our forces. We would like to reiterate what Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Monday**:** “I think when you look at that larger picture, it does make clear that these kinds of events are isolated and don’t represent what’s really happening in Afghanistan.”
You can rest assured that everything is moving according to the plan, and we are slowly and safely handingover the security responsibilities to the ANSF. That day is not far when we will see the nation of Afghanistan fully independent and no longer dependent on other nations for its security and stability. The important point to note here is that the foundation has been laid, and ultimately it will be up to the people of Afghanistan how they choose to shape their future. Our commitment is enduring, and we will continue to stand with them until they no longer need our assistance. We have also made our stance clear in regards to the peace negotiations. As Secretary of State Hillary Clinton clearly said about “the necessary outcomes of any negotiation: insurgents must renounce violence, abandon al Qaeda, and abide by the constitution of Afghanistan, including its protections for women and minorities. If insurgents cannot meet those red-lines, they will face continued and unrelenting assault."

I don’t know on whose behalf you are talking to us. But let me tell you that everyone on this forum wants to have a very serious disccusion with you. But we want a discussion which is fully participated by anyone who initiates/attends from your end and does not just spark it and skedaddles.
